Yesterday I picked up an '84 Standard Wing.....$500.

Will need an engine, one piston has a hole in it the size of a silver dollar....swallowed a valve. The rest of the bike just needs my tender touch, I can feel my right arm aching now! I plan to go through it from axle to axle so there won't be any surprises, one encouraging thing I noted; the battery was up and all the electric stuff works. I'll post a couple pics soon before starting in on it.

My big question is....where can I find out by the VIN if it's a true Standard and not a stripped down Aspencade or Interstate? I haven't found a source on how to decipher the VIN on these things like I have for the Valk.

Just entering the VIN into the car fax website will bring up free vehicle details. Google will usually do that also.

My Honda Motorcycle Identification Guide lists the V.I.N. for the 1200 Standard as 1HFSC1401EA000001~

This should help you determine if it's a standard, interstate and aspencade have different numbers from the standard model.  I used to have one of these in the wineberry color, bought it new in '84 when I was 25 yrs. old.  Got married that year too, we took our honeymoon on that bike.  Rode it all over the country.  I owned it until about 10 years ago.  Lots of memories.  That was a great bike.

Here's a few pics Eddie. Rita's in quite a lot of pain, appears to be the sciatic nerve in the left leg, her lower back had been giving her trouble recently. Right now she's quite helpless. Has an MRI scheduled Wednesday morning, hope we can find out something. With her Parkinsons, she has to be fully sedated to get her to lay still. As for the bike, gonna need some TLC for sure, it was running fine(so I'm told) a couple months ago. The gas is quite fresh so must have been ridden regularly. The PO is extremely hard of hearing and eyesight is also bad, has no business on a motorcycle. Judging by conversation with his mechanic, he thinks he simply overrevved it one too many times...he just can't hear it. Yeah....whatever, it swallowed a valve. Now I'm looking for an engine. Saw one in Ft. Myers for a decent price, just hate the ride and distance at this particular moment.

Running a tad rough but think I got it figured out. A little JB Weld ought to do it.

The instruments all work fine, thank goodness.


My friend Carman that did my leather work has already promised to fix this. Might go for a Gunfighter style.


Lots of cleaning to do. Was parked outside at an apartment complex. It shows throughout.

From what I can see at this point, the tank looks good. It was a daily driver up until about two months ago. It will all look good in a few months.

Ebay has them "Buy Now" for around $400, plus shipping which usually will add about another $250 or so. If I can find a decent runner in the $4-500 range total cost, that's still cheaper than rebuilding the one in there now. I'd like to find a good one here in Fla. so I can go pick it up instead of paying for shipping.

Has 38k miles on it, and as with any used item like that "you pays your money and takes your chances." I wasn't really ready to put out the $$ for an engine just now, but this one popped up and I felt I had to take advantage of the opportunity. It would cost me the $250 just to have one shipped from out of state if I bought it off ebay, plus another $4-500 for the engine. So I figure this will save me that $4-500, badly needed since my money-tree seems to be losing leaves faster than they're growing back. It's in Ft. Myers, and a friend and fellow Valker, Jeff McKay from Naples is bringing it up with him next week when he comes up for a gun show here in Orlando. Jeff, I can't thank you enough, I know it involves going out of your way and I really appreciate it.

I was asked an incriminating question by my wife; "since you're running out of room in the garage, where do you plan to store it?" When I looked over at her car, I got "that look!"  I guess her car isn't going anywhere...for now anyway. If I keep this up, we'll have to buy a new couch!!

I know of an 85 1200 running engine, 60k on it for about $600, possibly $550. in the Fort Myers area. If you're interested let me know.
