Anyone have experienced trying to remove the screws that hold the inner fairing/speakers on a 99 interstate? I have not been able to remove one of them. Ideas???

Yup it happens all the time.  The brass insert and the non brass screw undergo electrolytic corrosion (rust) then it is hard to remove.

Take out all the screws you can and then pry gently on the inner fairing to put pressure on the remaining screw head in the outward direction and turn the screw CCW.

If you apply enough pressure and continue turning the insert itself will pull out.

This is no big deal, when you get the whole inner fairing off you can then take a few minutes with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Be careful not to crush the insert with the pliers!

Then before you put it back together you really need to coat the screw threads of all the screws with an  ANTI SEIZE LUBRICANT of your choice (I use N-5000).

Then put the screw in the insert, and then put some glue in the hole where the insert goes (I use JB weld) and then press the insert onto the hole in the fairing and then carefully remove the screw.  Give the glue time to set.  Then put it all back together.
