I took the bike out for it's maiden Darkside ride tonight and frankly, I was expecting more...more
of an adjustment. I really didn't notice much difference, to tell the truth. I think I'm gonna love it. I humbly request membership into the Darkside. Let me know the steps. But I don't do "initiations". ;)

I put on the Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/60R 16 in a V rating. $105 bucks and I bought it locally and it took one day for "Flatsoes" to get it in....another plus and no more shipping costs.

Crap, another one missed the fiery death.  Oh well.

Doc Moose was the DarkSide # guy. I don't see him around the sandbox anymore  :-\   You might chase him down on the Ohio board.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

old2soon

You are now forever lost. Come to the darkside-we have COOKIES.  :2funny: When i switched i felt much like you did-not much to the transition.  ;) I've had more than one person tell me it CAN'T work.  :crazy2: Yup-right.  :cooldude: RIDE SAFE.

I run a 205/55vr16 on mine. V rated also. I had to turn the right rear saddle bag bolt around cuz it grabbed the tire! Scared the crap outa me at 40 deep in a right dog leg...other than that its great. I think i will go with the 205 /60-16 next time...

Rams

Welcome.  I went with the Austone Taxi Tire and I agree, the transition was significantly less that what i expected.  My closest friend rides an HD, he repeatedly warned me to not do darkside, said it was dangerous.

Can't wait to go ride with him again.  Probably won't change his mind but, I'm convinced and am not looking back.   :cooldude:

Thanks, guys for the Dark Side welcome..

Dogg, I cut the nut cages and did the carriage bolts..It worked great. Not sure I needed to, but they're done no matter what tire I run in the future.

old2soon...thanks, I love cookies!

Jess, I know what you mean about the fiery death warnings. But I've been on here a long time and know you trailblazers have already proved it works. Besides..remember when Evel Knievel said, "My death will be glorious!"? Didn't happen. :)

Bandit, Wow...you were truly one of the first DSers.

SmokinJoe, if I don't get a number, that's ok. Love that pic of your DS lean. That's the one I'll show the guys at work to prove you can corner with a DS tire.

Blackrams, the Austone is the tire I wanted to use, but I run 13" 440 Progressives and with my Russell Day Long seat, it actually raised me up an inch or two. Even at 6 ft tall, I'm barely flatfooted anymore when I'm sitting in normal riding position in the seat. I was afraid the added height of the Austone might put me a tad too high. I also didn't know if it'd still be off the ground with the Rivco Center Stand I just installed.

LOL!  Wiggy, you misunderstand.  When they say, "We got cookies," they mean you, the new guy, must bring the cookies.   ;)

Fire! Foe! Flee! Alert! Flaming Death! You idiot, you're going to spontaneously explode! Don't you know putting that tire on your car will make your girlfriend/wife (Maybe both!) leave you, your dog die, your cakes will fail to rise, and you WILL die a flaming death!

Please, don't make Al Gore cry! Don't do it!

Just getting that outta the way before someone does it for real. Welcome! It took me about a thousand miles to really get the feel for it, but now it feels completely normal to me. The ONLY time I notice it is on very uneven pavement that slants downwards to the side, I have to be conscious of where I am in the lane or it tends to "walk" down the hill on me.

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

Some are easier than others.

my 1st one was like the OP.  it took me 1000 miles to notice a difference.

my 2nd one was worse.  I had to play with the PSI to get it right.

Every bike, and every tire is different.  I say don't judge them all by any ONE.

Thanks, Serk...your warning is much appreciated! ;) Yep, so far the uneven semi tractor ruts are about all that I've been real watchful of. The rest seems about the same. With the Avon Cobras, my bike would lean if I just thought about a turn(well, almost)...this Envigor requires "slight" countersteer--not an issue.

Mr. Whiskey, I love the profile of this tire. I have 12 inch shocks on my Valk, do you think it would work on my bike?

Just went darkside myself (Faulken Zeix ZE 512 - 205/55/16 ) on my 97 Std.I have 11-1/2"  progressive 440s , riding 2 up , did nut cage mod and I LOVE it. Did not take much road time to get used to the difference. Actuallly seems more responsinve in the handling department.I also completely  rebuilt my final drive and installed  new dampers , and WOW , much smoother ride !!

Congrats on the Darkside plunge, Kep! Don't forget to record the mileage when you put the tire on at....like I usually do(forget). That way you can keep track of treadlife.

This is my first car tire on the valkyrie, but have had one on an 04 wing I used to have. I went with the Vredestein Sportrac 3 in the 205/60/16 size and had it mounted by a local tire shop. Haven't had a chance to put any miles on it yet, but am looking forward to it. I did do the nutcage mod on my interstate and used carriage bolts which worked just fine.

WynneBear

Been Darkside for close to 5 years. Asked for a number awhile back. No love.  May I please have a DS #?
Here is my proof. Goodyear Assurance, never going back.
