Looking for a local mechanic or mechanically inclined Valkyrie owner

As the title states, I am looking for a good local Indy mechanic or mechanically inclined/experienced Valkyrie owner.  I live by Sacramento, but I go all over Northern California.  I got some of those Aeromach Velocity stacks, and I thought it would just be like three bolts each to install them, but it is a bit more involved and wouldn't mind finding someone experienced with installing them to do the install or at least look over my shoulder and give me pointers.  It's the bending of the linkages that has me concerned.  Also, it would be good to find a local mechanic other than the dealership.  I have no service records on my Valk, and while it is super clean and running like a top, I would like to keep it that way.  I should probably get the splines lubricated, and the valves adjusted just so I know when they have been done.

before you get ready to install your stacks make sure you get the tank spacer you need from bigbf a member here on VRCC he makes them or you will get a dent on the bottom right side of your gas tank where it makes contact with it

I'm pretty sure the tank spacer is only needed for an Interstate.

Only for the IS. I have an IS tank on my standard but, made a spacer. Worked fine.

I am not a mechanic by any sense of the word, but I AIN"T ascared of pulling nuthing apart . I have pulled just about everything off of my Fat Gurl and been able to get it back on and it is still rideable ... I have never seen instructions for these stacks but I am sure I could figure it out. Does anyone have a version of the instructions I could look at online?

It's a jaunt but I am about 1 tank of fuel (or probably less) away. South of you.

I have a couple others (Mike4Sho & Mapper) that are south of me that we are trying to get together for a weekend wrench party type of thing at my place. No date set yet but you are welcome to join when it happens...

on my standard without the spacer it put a slight dent in the right side of my tank from the middle stack after I tightened the rear tank bolt down did it on a friends standard also with the spacer I can now slide a few sheets of paper under the middle right side stack we both have the addon brand stacks not the better areomach  brand made out of billit I think the instructions are on dags site or one of the other VRCC tech tip pages mine didn't come with any when new from addon

It's on BigBF's site....about bending the choke linkage arms for clearance. I'm not sure if you have to do that but I did and it was no trouble. The bends that are made are not major. It's just to create an offset in the rails at each stack location. It's easily done with long nose pliers...as Bill has illustrated.

do the stacks fit a interstate without making modifications to the pods my standard linkage didnt need to be bent but they did need to be loosened up a bit to get the bottom screw hole in place under it and someone with no knowledge of doing it might have a bit of a problem with that round choke return spring thingy getting it back to original position and sliding correctly

I have a 98 Standard that I put the Velocity Stacks on last fall. First time that I really did anything
"serious" to my Valk. I have the Standard Tank on her, and after installing the stacks, I found that the tank was sitting on the stack on the right side middle stack. Fortunately, I had already ordered and received BF's spacer, and the cool looking screens for the stacks. If you need to install the spacer, you will also need to follow the instructions for adding the rubber pads to the underside of the tank so that it once again has the requisite 4 contact points to keep the tank sitting solidly on the frame. I also found that I did need to bend the choke linkage, which is also covered in these instructions.

 I'll do some looking around for the step by step with pictures on adding the rubber spacer pads to the underside of the fuel tank so that the tank keeps the 4 points of contact with the frame of the bike. When I find it, I'll post the link.
 Once you get those Velocity Stacks installed, your gonna really like the way it looks, I guarantee it!
 Found it! Here's the link to the PDF for installing the rubber pads to the underside of the tank. It really works. I had to do this so that my tank wouldn't rock back and forth from side to side. After it was done, the tank sits solid as a rock!

or you could just stick those air filter pods on and have  it look (in my opinion ) lame and half done this might start a war here

You can get a 1/2" nylon spacer from ACE hardware for $0.50. That's what I used when I had my stacks. Worked fine.

I think it's 1/2" tk x 3/4" diameter with a 1/4" hole in the center.

And I didn't remove the tank either. Just remove front bolt, loosen rear bolt, tip the tank up and slide spacer in place. The front bolt holds it in place....Oh, I think you may also need a longer front bolt.

Someone mentioned that after putting in the spacer, the tank wont sit on the supports anymore and it will wobble from side to side.  He said you have to remove the tank and put on rubber spacers on the bottom to solve that problem.
