Ok......maybe this is a tech item (will post there too) but I think I discovered a happy medium.  I tried one of them fancy silver star bulbs a while back.  It was very bright, but it didnt last very long and I dont like surprises.  So I put the OEM bulb back in but never was happy with the color or brightness.

Well, I was at Wally World last week and it was like 102° in the shade outside so I took my time "browsing" around and I found a bulb I hadnt seen before.

Its called XTRAVISION 9003/HB2/H4 by Sylvania.  It costs half as much as the silver star one and its plenty bright.  Last night Judy and I came home from the coast at night and I was well pleased with the "whiteness" and the brightness from shoulder to shoulder and depth of vision was greatly improved.

On the back it lists the grade for brightness and durability

A standard bulb (OEM eq) gets one bar for brightness and four for life

the silver star gets four bars for brightness and one for life

the XTRA gets three for brightness and two for life.

We shall see how long this one goes

I bought some "Sixity Ultra" 60w/55w bulbs off of Ebay and love them!  They're extremely bright on high beam.  Really light up the road at night both in front and on the shoulder.  I highly recommend them.  The only problem is you have to trim off two of the tabs for them to fit.  I have not experienced any problem with them not aiming straight.  As for price, they're cheaper then NOT seeing a deer on the highway.

Do you have to modify the bulb-  bend/ cut the tabs? do you use an adapter ring?

for the standard or tour its a direct match for OEM........I think all bets are off for the state, theirs may be a tad different, but I think its just a tab being cut off or something like that
