Times are tough and 6K for some is a lot of money to spend on a cycle or anything for that matter.  We may think our Valks are worth 8 grand plus but the general people out there think that is too much.  I see even gently used HD's flooding the market were fetching 14-15K a few years ago now only going for 11-12K, still not worth that in my opinion. 

ATV's though if gently used and in good shape not beat up are fetching in my area more than what they are worth and the main reason is the price of new ones continue to go up in price drastically lately with all this power steering and other fancy options people think they need.  Another reason is dealers do not have a lot of good used ATV's in stock thus increasing their price/value and most people can sell them outright for a lot more than what a dealer would give them. 

For example,  my 2000 Arctic Cat 500 4wd Auto bought 6 years ago for 2600 bucks is still worth 2500 bucks and have had 3 people already tell me they'd give me that no problems since in decent shape runs good for a utility machine.  Even my 2003 Polaris Magnum 330 4wd paid 3K 5 years ago can easily sell for 2500 bucks.  I'm now in the market for a 2007-2009 Can Am 500 or 650cc 2-up ATV and are very hard to find used.  If the dealer has one, they hold onto them demanding their inflated pricing of over 6 grand some are even near 8 grand used which is crazy high considering it is 5-6 years old already and a new one costs between 9-10 grand after rebates, etc.   Who in their right mind would pay over 7 grand for a 5-6 year old ATV even if lightly used when they can spend 2-3 grand more and get a new one?

It was me.  . I gave them close to what they were asking. It was barn fresh. Needs its carbs cleaned. I gave it a maga-dose of Techron on the way home. I think it was a divorce bike that they decided to sell. It does have CB, passenger PTT, rear speakers, decent rubber, clean fluids, a Corbin leather seat and 6-into-6 pipes with the baffles removed and lots of extra chrome do-dads. The fairing has the most scratches and a hairline crack about 1.5" long. I'll go inside and patch it quickly before it spreads. I'm either going to clean and fix it up to sell it or part it out. I honestly haven't decided yet. I'd like to keep the engine for myself and that's what's making my decision hard.

If you're willing to spend the time and hassle of parting it out, there is no doubt you'll get more dollars out of the package.  Just look at the prices of Valkyrie stuff.  Heck if it's an Interstate, the tank alone will get you a grand.  If you strip off all the bling and sell it as a Standard, I'm certain you'd get more.  All depends on what value you place on your time.

I'm a mechanic by trade so stripping is no problem and a shop to keep it in. Not a I/S but a half breed.

All (or at least) most of our folks in the VRCC are here because we love Valkyries.  We wouldn't feel right parting out a perfectly good Valkyrie.  They are a dwindling resource.

Now, stripping off the bling to sell separately is an entirely different matter.

Just kidding. I couldn't find it in my heart to strip her. Too many memories to  do that. Hoping she goes to a good home. Once she is gone I'll sale all the spare parts. But not until she is gone.

The bike is not without its warts so it wasn't a total home run deal. Is it worth more than I paid? I don't know. As I said I'd love to keep the engine and use it as a transplant. If I part out the rest of the bike it will serve as an "organ" donor for a lot of other needy Valkyries so I don't see how this doesn't  serve the greater good. I've already a couple of friends over to see if I could tempt them. Their resisting - so far. My first mission will be to pull the carbs and see how they're jetted and to open the slo-jets.

Does anyone know if Cobra baffles are to be found?
