House Bans Electronic Benefit Transfer Cards at Strip Clubs, Liquor Stores

The Florida House has banned the use of welfare recipients' EBT cards at "adult entertainment establishments" like strip joints, casinos and bottle clubs.

The House on Thursday passed a bill (HB 701) by an 89-26 vote.

EBT cards — standing for electronic benefit transfer — are like debit cards. Welfare recipients use them to draw down their benefits.

Democrats fought against the bill. They said it was paternalistic and offensive to poor people.

Bill sponsor Jimmie Smith explained that voting against his measure was like "voting for lap dances on taxpayer dollars."

Oh Yea they need the money to eat       Why did Democrats fight against the bill? Shouldnt this have been the law all along?

No different then cashing them somewhere else and then going to the place.  Besides the transation fees at that place will kill ya! $6 at the atm. Come on!

Politicians-least ways to my knowledge-have never been accused of being very smart. We have liquor stores around here that are"proud"to take E B T cards. RIDE SAFE.

What ! Deny welfare recipients a night at a strip joint !  How dare they ! How many more rights will 'they' take from us ! This just the ain't American way !
Heck, in my area [NY] the going rate has been 50% for years with not much enforcement.
