When I got mine a few days ago, I checked Jake Wilson when
I saw it was $20X at HDL. It was $19X at Jake Wilson... I just
mashed the HDL button...  I mounted a new front on Sunday,
maybe a new rear next weekend... two fresh tires at the
start of summer: priceless  :cooldude:

Carolyn came home yesterday from her horse riding trip to
Alabama with a black and blue twisted ankle, looks like I'll
be doing more supper cooking than tire changing for the
next few afternoons...

Mike and Stanley be Careful with those tires!! I'd inspect them good before any ride. A buddy I rode with  Saturday just put a brand new Avon on and it separated after a couple of local rides!! I've always wanted one but  they seemed to be the highest priced out there.

Now I see the comment Alph made, so needless to say I am now paranoid! Last time I priced them they were around $300ish. Can't help but wonder why the  price drop.  :-\

Got 7,000 miles on my Cobras front and rear. Have not seen any problems with them. Bought them last year on the recommendation of the bike shop I bought the tires from. The owner has a beautifully chromed out VTX 1800 that he rides very aggressively.

Mike sorry to hear about Carolyn and hopes she gets better and yes, you'll probably be the chief cook and bottle washer!  ;D

I've worn out quite a few Avons on the wing and the valk - both of the "snake" models, front and rear.  Never a problem.  Still have one on the back of the wing, darkside on the Valk.  Both bikes, darkside front - Avon roadrider on the wing, Dunlop K491 on the valk.  I have 3 half worn Cobras on hand, I took off and put new on when I was about to leave on road trips.  So I'm set for wing back tires for awhile - assuming I use them up before they get too old.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy Cobras, based on my experience.  But if not for them, I'd go back to E3's.  Both perform/last better than all of the other MC tire brands in my experience.

19,000 on my last front cobra and still had some pretty good thread. :cooldude:

I've been riding on Avon Cobras, front and rear, for five years and have never had one separate.  I pay about $210 for the front and about $220 for the rear.  They can be had for less on-line but the independent shop, where I have them mounted, will stand behind the tires that they order where they will not do so if I bring in tires to be mounted.  Sometimes the cheapest price is not less expensive.
I have never come close to paying the suggested retail for these tires which is around $300 each.

Maintaining proper air pressure is critical to getting good mileage out of these tires.  I run 41 PSI in the front and 44 PSI in the rear.  I have a Doran TPMS monitoring these pressures.

I'm replacing both tires on my I/S with Continental "Motion" sport touring radials.

They have a reputation for long wearing tread life. And they should last at least as long as the recommended "cruiser" brands (Avon, Metzler, Dunlops, Bridgestones, etc.).

I'm leaving the Darkside and going with a lower profile and narrower front tire so as to try and reduce the low speed clumsiness of the I/S.

BTW,....I love my Avon Cobras on my "Rat Rod Valk"

ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY!

SPRING13 <<< That will save you 10% at HDL ( until tomorrow ) ... I just bought another OEM Goldwing alternator for $218.93.

Avon is the best tire I've ever used on the front... I would'nt run nothing else and as I've said before I would'nt run another E3 if they gave them to me with free mounting.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Stanley Steamer

I always run Metz's on the front.........and Avon's on the back.....like Metz rears, but never got more than ~6,000ish miles out of them.......the Avons....most I ever got has been ~9,400......the last couple.....mid 7,000's.....tried an E3 on the front once.....it was noisy from day one until I had to replace it..... :(

Mr Whiskey

I'm as die-hard Met'z as Joe is Avon, but yeah, they sure don't last long. & they aint cheap!!
I think my best on a Met'z front is 13 or 14K, & that was pushin' it alittle far.
I think it was Fudgie said he could get 20k+ on one, still wanna know how he does that!
AMT & Dennis Kirk have been the best prices I could find on the net.
Peace, Whiskey.

I've never owned a set of Metz just because of price and not a long tread like according to ppl I talked to as well as reviews. I have E3s on my standard and my newly acquired I/S has a new set of Metz on her and she feels a lot smoother. Since I've never had or rode an I/S before I don't know if the smoother ride is because of the Metz or the  I/S is a smoother ride.  :-\

No Jess I don't think so and wouldn't know how to tell. It only had 8k on her so I'm sure it's all stock. :)

I believe all the available upgrade shocks have springs visible.  If the springs are completely covered you have OEM shocks.

I'm running Shinkos on my Valk, and they seem great so far after ~600 miles.  I'll report later on their longevity, but so far, so good.  Very affordable and made with Yokohama tech.

I'm still the bottle washer, plus we're getting glorious rain most everyday... I put the front wheel
back on yesterday, it has probably never been off any longer than overnight, there's
not much to taking the front wheel on and off.

Even though I have a board stuck in the scissors of my jack, the bike sunk down a little towards
the front. With the "stays on forever" jack adapter, I always have to make sure there's no weight
on my headers... I slide a piece of paper in between the headers and the jack to prove the
headers are safe. The piece of paper was stuck when I checked yesterday  :tickedoff: ...

I wish there was a better official locking system on jacks than those tabs they provide. I don't
like jacking my bike a foot off the ground, I like to just barely get the wheel off the ground
and take off the fender.

When I stick MGM in the air on a jack, I have safety jacks that I stick under the crash bars.       Then I know he ain't goin no where, plus it really stabilizes him.   I haven't put him on a jack since he was converted to a Trike, but it will probably be the same way in FRONT tire removal.
