Freaking awesome... Thank you for posting.

I've always been fascinated by the SR-71 (And of course it's predecessor the A-12). As in I used to know the tail numbers of all the planes that were ever made, that kinda geeky stuff.

But I'd never heard about this little bit of history until now.

You're welcome.  I just got it in an email and knew some here would be interested.  What is cool is how long they kept the SR71's a secret, and the effort that went into moving them.  I have traveled several of the roads they mentioned, but that was now and the highway system has improved significantly since the '60's.

In '69 I saw an SR71 at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. Even though I was in uniform, I got a close look at an M16 when I got within 100 yards of it.
