Happened on Suck Creek Road (hummm appropriate name) just outside Chattanooga.

Suck Creek Road is a popular bike ride, good pavement, curves, nice scenery, but with quite a bit of traffic. If you are in the area ride it.

One PU on the wrong side of the road, WAAAAY on the wrong side after the bridge, 2 bikes parked on the curve, one car stopping in the road, one guy going like heck not paying attention, wonder if he finished his call.

Why was that car stopped in the right lane? 

Crazy scary.  Could have been multiple fatalities if the car had struck a bike, or that hit car had plowed into the two parked bikes.

Why was that car stopped in the right lane? 

Stopped for the oncoming Funeral procession.

I've seen this "traditional" show of respect for funeral processions all my life.   I'm sure what I'm about to say will anger some but, I really think it's stupid.  Always have.  I am not critizing anyone in the procession.   It's an old tradition from way back when, I understand that and why but, showing respect while driving your horse and buggy or even in the old Model A was alright but not on today's higher speed roads.   Some traditions need to be addressed and made illegal.  Police escorts should be mandatory for processions greater than _____________.  Pick a number.

This happens everyday in my small town.  Causes traffic congestion, accidents and quite frankly disrupts half the town.  I don't mean to offend but, the world doesn't stop turning because someone, you, me or anyone else dies.  State legislatures should address this.  Yeah, I know, observant, defensive drivers don't have a problem with this, the problem is, those are far and few between.

Precisely why I included myself in the group.  Yes, I know the death of a loved one is tough to endure, been through it myself, that doesn't change the danger associated with a funeral procession or for that matter large groups of motorcycles.  A police escort with flashing lights tends to get people's attention and greatly reduces the incidence of accidents.

yeah, what he said! always keep an eye behind. especially when coming to an unexpected stop.

I've been off the brake and enaging the clutch because of people that don't slow to a stop until right behind you. some folks are way, WAY to trusting of their brakes.

I agree with you blackrams.  There are many ways to show respect.  Causing a traffic jam does not need to be one of them. I ride with the Patriot guards and I think its totally unnecessary most of the time when traffic on the OTHER side of a divided highway stops to watch us motor by.

I also think reasonable size limits on processions is a wise thing

And police escort/support is a must
