I voted in both the prez elections BUT I didn't vote for that(insert your own description/idea here as i'm in enough trouble already)in either of the elections.

Obviously I didn't vote for that liar either. I don't doubt that the blacks turned out in record numbers while whites stayed home.

however,Obama had help here in the Hoosier state in 2008. Some Indiana Democrats have just been found guilty in falsifying and forging names on petitions to get Obama and Clinton on the primary ballot.

Without that felony, Obama wouldn't have been on the primary in Indiana and he wouldn't have won in Indiana, not that it made any difference.

Had you read the "Rules of the Road" thread you would have known that the GENERAL board is just that.

One where general topics are discussed, anything and everything is fair game.

If you only want to discuss motorcycles then you should limit yourself to the TECH board.

I might ask why you need to prove yourself a fool by making such a statement. It's a GENERAL Board, and therefore NOT restricted to just motorcycle related subjects. If you have just joined and only read the most recent items, then you've missed some rather spirited exchanges. However, if you've been reading this forum for some time now without posting, then you know this is nothing new. As with others of equal unimportance, your absence will be noted comparable to the size of the hole in a bucket of water after you remove your hand. Just as an observation this individual appears to be a brand new member (25 April).

It's easy to be a loud mouth in a public conversation when one is surrounded by loud mouths of similar persuasion. It's easy to be rude over the internet.

We do have a lot of members who have either left abruptly or simply drifted away because some folks can't seem to carry on a conversation without inserting their own disparaging references to public figures with whom they disagree. Try for a moment to remember that even though a large percentage of the voting public may dislike a particular person or a particular political viewpoint, there will be someone you encounter that views that person as a hero or that viewpoint as proper. Perhaps your personal opinion is that if someone doesn't agree with your view you don't need him (or her). If that's the case, you may eventually find yourself alone and relationally impoverished.

Try for a moment to put yourself in someone else's shoes. Would you feel like sticking around if there were a group of very vocal people calling your hero names, a circle jerk pounding each other's backs and guffawing about the stupidity of your views?

Come to think of it, why is the tone and content of the discussions so different when we gather in person?

I do think that respectful and thoughtful discussion of differing political views may be of value. I also think it may be impossible on our General board for a discussion of a political nature to remain respectful and thoughtful past the third response.

With each person who has bolted in anger or slipped away, the VRCC community has lost what that person had to contribute. In some cases that may have been little, but in some it was much. Consider that if you're one who participates in alienating behavior.

And then consider what it must look like to people who come to this board from outside the United States of America ...

I respect your words of wisdom, and I apologize for beating this dead horse once more, but just throwing another request out there for a "Politics/Religion/Off-color" sub-forum, or as an alternative, make a "Valkyrie related General Board" and a "Non-Valkyrie related General Board."

These discussions would still happen, but at least those who wish to not participate can still hang out where we talk about rides, get togethers, fun things we've done to our Valk, etc...

Consider just these questions. Who will decide how much Valkyrie and how much of something else will move a thread? Will posters intentionally insert a twist in a political entry to make it Valkyrie related? Who will police the trash? What will happen when people decide they want to talk politics, but not religion? What about folks who want to talk religion but don't want to read about guns? What about folks who don't want to hear about dogs? What about folks that just don't want to hear anything from Idaho? How many boards?

Maybe we could have a separate board for people who can't seem to carry on a discussion without resorting to demeaning names.

How much traffic do you think a Valkyrie only discussion board will get? (Hint: Check out the discussion board of another Valkyrie related club.)

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all learn to conduct ourselves in a digital forum in manners similar to how we conduct ourselves in our flesh and blood discussions?

I think this place is set up very well. Got the Tech section for strictly tech related stuff with a little latitude, but not much, and the General Section with general stuff and lotsa latitude.

Approach this environment with an adult perspective (mature perspective. Get your minds out of the gutter

) and it works really well. Unless you're a dead horse from Idaho in which case you'll be severely beaten.

That word was NOT necessary. As you said, we can have a legitimate, reasonable conversation here without name calling. After all, I'm partially disagreeing with you but in a reasonable manner.

I try to be fair and reasonable but I will not abide someone calling me a fool! It makes no difference to me what topic we are discussing and I would hope that it would make no difference to members here.
I do not call people names and I will not stand for that. I'm not always a reasonable person but I try to be.

Looks like a fool read the title and still came here anyway.

As far a the black voter turnout, the turnout was higher because they had a black person to vote for. Republicans vote for Republicans. Democrats vote for Democrats.
The American voters vote for one issue or one party and never bother to really check out the candidates.
Vote for a candidate because of his/her stances on the issues. Not simply the color of their skin or who spent the most on their campaign or party lines.
Yes, the voters got who they voted for the question now is; will they get what they voted for?

While I do see that many here lean the same way politically and have the same thoughts on issues, I have very seldom seen name calling and/or blatant disregard for others opinions, at least not by the regular contributors (there are always posts like the one before this one that will make us all look bad). In fact, many of us have asked, almost demanded, to hear their reasons behind their thoughts and opinions, which never seem to come. I specifically recall a guy with Bob Marley as his icon pic who would throw out all kinds of statements in favor of his political leanings and we would plead for the reasons why, but we heard crickets in response. I guess after you ask over and over and get no reply, you tend to not care any longer.

If you tell someone that you don't agree with him in a polite way then there shouldn't be a problem. But when your first post is a rant why would we want that person around? It usually only gets worse as time goes on. Not to mention how do we know that this one post is not what the person intended all along? Someone who got their rear handed to them before and now is back to reap doubt and confusion. Maybe even slant the board more their way? NO one person who is sane posts one rant and leaves no one. Sounds like some personal issues to me and it sounds like the the correct thing happened.
