Whole sale gun prices.

I know this has be asked before...... but I did not save.  Several years ago you could find out prices with out paying for the info. That`s what I need now, cause I`m poor. Now they want $30.00 to tell you what a Colt Woodsman is worth. Any help ? TIA.

You can go to http://www.gunbroker.com/ to see what people are actually paying for different firearms. (Like eBay but with a pair).

I can often times find things locally or at fun shows (Freudian typo intentionally left in place) less expensive, but it's a good starting point at least.

Beyond gun broker, if you simply type Colt Woodsman for sale (or whatever) into a Google search and begin opening windows one by one, you can usually find any number of your items for sale... Gunbroker, Armslist, local and national gun boards, yada.  It gives you the spread of gun values, or at least current asking prices around the country (or anything else you may be searching).

Another trick I use, is to type in what I'm looking for and hit enter, then go to the top and hit images.  If you hit various images of your item in the long page of photos, many will lead you to websites discussing the value of the item you are researching.

Midway recently notified me they have this year's version of Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Values up for sale.  I have a couple older copies, but in today's wacky ask-for-the-moon-and-you-might-get-it  market, I would not spend the money for this book at this time.

Yep, I visit many gun sites regularly just for fun.  Yesterday I found a guy listing his mint nickel 6" Colt Python for $600............ if he did his homework, he would be starting closer to $1500.

Yeah, I have contemplated this for years.  But I do not enjoy asking top dollar for things, esp in this brother-gouging-brother market we have today.  And even getting reasonable fair market on good collectors means you may have to wait a long time to get your price.  And I will never do any business at my home, so meets have to be at local gun shops, and I MUST ensure I am selling to a qualified/legal buyer.  Then ATF thinks if you buy and sell even a few items per year, you are an unlicensed dealer deserving of a stretch in a federal pen.  So I enjoy myself vicariously by helping friends and acquaintances make good choices at fair prices, and learn proper safety, handling and shooting.

In the mid '80s, I had friends renting one table at big gun shows selling MILSURP older stuff, but some modern (non curio and relic) stuff and some ammo and accessories, usually no more than a dozen firearms, and none ever had an FFL (maybe a curio and relic, maybe not).  They made a few hundred dollars here and there, not a living wage by any means; just hobbyists having fun, and funding their own purchases by selling and trading.  I used to man their tables when they went hunting for good deals around the show.  Those days are long gone and I miss them.

Nope, already traded away my own mint blue Python safe queen to fund a more important purchase.

Pythons are nice, but my combat revolvers are Smiths.

I am not in the firearm business of buying and selling.  More like an investor who (mostly) buys and holds for the long term.

And finally, I'm nearly certain that if I had called, it would already have been gone (way downstate, not across town).
