I am interested and mounting a trunk to my 99 tourer, but I do not want to change the stock saddlebags any suggestions?

If you have a trunk, the saddle bag lids will hit the bottom because of the hinges. You dont change the saddlebags.... You need to change the hinges to I/S style hook and catch. You dont have to use the cables, but I think it is wise to have them. That way you dont set the lid on the seat and it falls off and get scratched up.....and if you forget to latch the lid, you wont lose it down the road.

I have an aftermarket trunk and really need to do this modification, my frustration is finding the correct parts.  I did see a schematic for the Interstate bags but can't tell which parts I'll need.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

From what I have picked up from this board, I believe that the I/S  bags don't have hinges, only latches and when you open the lids, they hang down on the sides by the cables which are to keep you from losing the lid if you forget to latch them.

I have seen a valkyrie Tourer owner who had his trunk on a hinged platform, not on a fixed platform. He could raise the trunk up from the rear, and his Tourer bag lids would easily clear the trunk.

Another idea would be use a trunk that is very narrow like Mutazu.

The DB might clear, I have the DMY and it doesn't clear the bags.  I am trying to be very gentle with the hinges when I open them by pushing my free hand against them to keep them from bending outward too much, but it is definitely putting undue stress on them.

What kind of trunk are you asking about?  If you're asking about adding a trunk from a Valkyrie Interstate, the lids on your Tourer bags will hit the trunk and not open very far.

If you want to add an Interstate trunk, you'll have to change out the lid hardware on your Tourer bags to Interstate hardware.  Not at all complicated.

If however, you're wanting to investigate adding an aftermarket trunk to your Tourer, then you might want to check out this thread....

Here you go, It's a Stock Goldwing trunk on my Tourer with stock Tourer saddlebag latches that clear the trunk.

I picked the truck up off ebay for $250.00 already painted just the way you see it.  Fab up a couple of simple brackets out of 3/16 steel plate that mount to the sissy bar locations and I'm good to go.

I use GIVI's largest trunk and my saddle bag lids clear fine.

I have been researching this myself
IS hinge replacements seem like the easiest way to go,  they  are numbers 29 and 30 in the parts.schematics I've been looking at.

81317-MBY-000 HOOK, SADDLEBAG LIDPart# 81317-MBY-000 $4.75
81318-MBY-000 CATCH, SADDLEBAG LIDPart# 81318-MBY-000 $14.60
Prices vary depending on where you look

I'm also looking into a hinged mount.
I have a couple other things to take care of first.
83 VT500 Shadow, first bike lasted about 1 year Engine oddly for a Honda grenaded.
75 CB550, second ride, just over a year, sold for the 1100
92 VT1100, 12 great years, was my Dad's before, now my Brothers.:cooldude:

The other guys are correct about changing the hinges on your Tourer bags.   Here is pic of mine on top of Pikes Peak.
