Coolant leaking

I have run about 800 miles and antifreeze is coming from around the cap. I have changed caps and still doing it. What is strange to me it only does it when after I crank it cold then run about 20 minutes or so it starts for a while then quits for 100s of miles until i park it overnight then starts all over again. The reservoir is about 1/4" above the top mark cold and has plenty of room for expansion. Any thoughts on this?

I had the problem real bad years ago.  Had to smooth out the top of the neck where it meets the cap gasket, it had a slight warp to it, and  I think the screw from the cap dug into it also.  I heard some guys would adjust the clamps at the bottom of the cap so it grips the radiator tighter.  I still get some spraying out, only a few times a year now.

you might check the hose between the radiator and reservoir. Make sure it isnt clogged cracked or broken. Also, have there ever been any stop leak potions used in the radiator?

I just bought it and don't  know about stop leak, I would think not. I will check the over flow hose again. It didn't  start until i added a chrome radiator cover, it's  not touching but maybe i did something to it.

I am still amazed that there is NO oil leaking, weeping, or stained areas.... I keep checking but I'll get over it..... maybe .....

Most leaking rad caps is because the rad neck is a little warped/crooked.  Pull the cap and clean the neck and try to tighten the neck tabs for the cap a bit.  Gently, no hammers.

I've used a flat surface and some 1000 grit paper to flatten the radiator opening. Place a small piece of cloth into the radiator and LIGHTLY sand the surface till it looks even all around. Pull out the wet cloth so as to drag the sanding dust up with it.

There are 2 little clips that hold the cap on.

Take a pair of good pliers and go easy, bend the tab towards the cap ever so lightly.

That should cure your leak.

If it doesn't, try it again, no work this time check check for a little weep hole in the cap to the radiator.

I think it is the cap is not tight enough.
