I just had my mechanic do a valve adjust, Carb adjust, carb sync, general look over, and K & N filter installed.  $326, I was expecting the bill to be a lot closer to $500.
I just got it with 30k on so I figured nothing had been done so far.  Usually I do my own work but I wanted it done right at least once.
This is the only guy I trust to work on my bikes.
The bill to repair the shipping damage to one bag(rightside) is $800, need to make a claim with the shipping company.

Seems pretty high to me...but I don't take mine to mechs very often.
Still, it's a good feeling to know(?) it was done right. Shouldn't have
to mess with it for a long time!

but if you just got the bike, you should check at least the splines and probably the u-joint and driveshaft for grease or lack of.

I don't think I will take the whole rear end apart just yet.  Yes, it should be done but I have not gotten a manual yet and I don't want to spend the time right now.

I have the Honda shop manual on cd...  Not sure where it is and I don't have it on my new computer I have just built.  I still have my old one but just haven't made time to xfer the stuff over just yet.  When I do find it I will email it to you and you can have it on your computer and just print out the pages you need and you don't have to worry about keeping the pages "clean" since you can just reprint them.  Don't spend your money on the manual it is a bit pricey and well you just don't need to I will find it and send it to you.

I am 31yrs old and have worked on all my automobiles myself but I never owned a street bike in my entire life until I bought my 99 I/S three years ago.  This is the best place to get answers and help.  Great great folks... I have met some wonderful folks here and some have turned in to best friends.  So, with that said, you can do all the work on your bike and save yourself the money.  Adjusting the valves is a piece of cake, there is step by step instructions in the shoptalk tab.  Synching the carbs is just as easy and doesn't take much time at all...  That too is in the shoptalk section and you can build your own gauge too.  I think I have about 50 bucks in mine.  Last winter I removed the pumpkin, drive shaft and u-joint for re-lubing and inspection.  All was good and I went to work and showed friends what my bike looked like on the jack stand with no rear tire or front tire on the bike and pumpkin and drive shaft removed.... They were surprised to see the pic and asked, "I didn't know you knew how to do all that to your bike".  I said, "neither did I until I found this valkyrie riders forum that educate and explain how to do almost anything to the bike and how to diagnose the problem.  

In closing, I will work on locating my manual on cd and send it to you but give me a few weeks with the holiday weekend and me working 12hr shifts at work... But, I won't forget about you!!

Just an fyi, I removed my front and rear wheel 2weeks after I bought my bike.  I had called the $tealer and they quoted me a price of 175.00 for labor + price of tires.  I bought my tires online from www.americanmototire.com/catalog/ for a fraction of the cost that they marked them up to and it was going to run me close to 600.00.  I did it for half that... I bought safety chrome with the difference.. I have never looked at a problem with my bike and said.. there is no way I can do that..  I just post on here or call my good buddy PharmBoy in Lawton, Ok and see what he is doing on a weekend and I just go down and work on my bike w/ a fellow valk rider and drink beer, laugh, and have a grand ol' time...  

Check for valkyrie riders in your area... It is always much more enjoyable to work on your bike w/ a buddy..     Cheers my friend..

Not afraid of it.  I own a '99 Nomad and it has not seen a mechanic in 9 years.  I would really appreciate the manual.  The VROC (Vulcan Club) is the same way.  Someone has done it and is always willing to share the knowledge.  I expect I will be a very active member here as well.  I have a complete welding shop and have a bad habit of sitting around looking at the bike and wondering "what if I....?".
