Trip Prep

So, planning my first real road trip.  I've been piecing together items I think I would like/want on the bike for the trip. 

Picking up the grease today for the spline service.
Ordered some P-Brackets for some accessory installation.
Going to pick up some driving lights to mount today while I'm out.
Getting the synthetic oil for final drive change.
Ordering GPS mount today
Getting an AC adapter today (either locally or online)

Items on hand currently:
- Shark audio system (bought off Classified here at VRCC)
- O-Rings for spline service (thanks to Disco here for the link to get those)
- Fuse panel for wiring in audio and lights.  (thanks to Mr. Bubbles and many others for their input on this).
- Luggage rack (purchased off e-Bay).  Need to drill out the mounting holes to get it to fit.

Also picking up a mesh armor jacket and gel seat pad (thanks bassman) for my daughter's safety and comfort on the trip. 

Can't think of anything else, maybe a tie down for our duffel on the luggage rack.  Hopefully have all this lined up in the next two weeks then getting with Marcus' friend for the install and maintenance.  End of July will be here before I know it.

I take a few more items on trips:

Ride-on sealant in the tires
Tire patching kit with mushroom plugs
12v mini air compressor
Tools needed to take either wheel off on the side of the road
Spare u-joint/yoke
Spare alternator
Honda spray cleaner/polish
Spare kickstand bolt and spring
Extra bungee cords
Micro-fiber cloths
Rain suit
Assorted fuses
Water
Hair brush
Suntan lotion
Road flares
Extra headlight bulb

In fact, I keep all of that stuff on the Valk at all times. U-joints and alternators are not stocked at dealers so you will stop your trip pretty quickly if you need either on a long trip.

But that's me. Maybe this list will give you some ideas.

Sure sounds like it, but I've pulled the alternator and u-joint out of that saddlebag and saved some long trips for other people.  Our valks are pretty tough, but the do break every once in a while.

Friend of mine used one of these styles and his clothes were always dry, had easy access, bag held a lot and the bright color increased his visibility profile a lot either in the rain or sunny conditions.  Inexpensive.  Held in place with a couple of bungies.  His was a heavy vinyl - nothing fancy just very functional for him.

Well ,no, I don t like being stuck somewhere in the middle of it. so Belle is getting its summer ready.
new bearing front and back, double rows ,pumpkin o rings,clean, inspect and reoil-grease u-joint, shaft, cup and splines. new o rings intake manifolds,valve adjustment, spark plug inspection (8 s),
bleed and clean hydrolics .
oil-filter change. probably a new front me880 (the last one made in Brazil was not too efficient)
the air filter was done in november .
the rear Michelin 65 is good for annother year ,three so far.
forgot the oiling of cables
since we didn t get an I/S, I got a shark  radio to install .d like to get a bazooka too.
As usual I ll be finnished a few minutes before we leave for LaCrosse 
Would like to sync the carbs but I had troubles locating that eqipment 
anyhow going to see the USA-Italy rugby game tonight so there s always Manyana

Well, my money splurge is done for now.

Got the oil to change the final drive.
Got the o-rings and grease for the spline service.
Got the 55w driving lights.
Got the MC Cover.
Got the dual AC power outlets.
Got a new air pump at Harbor Freight for $10, smaller than the one I currently have to free up more room.

Tank bib w/pocket for phone or ipod is on order from Cruiser Customizing.
GPS Mount from Mount Guys on order.
Kury P-Clamps (x4) on order from Cycle Accessory Store. 

Once the clamps come in (need those for the Shark Audio) and the driving lights, then I'll get the bike in the shop for all the installs.  Tank bra will be a few weeks to even ship but no rush on it.  I'll do that myself when it comes in. 

Then to test load the bike in preparation.  July 29 will be here before I know it.
