Fairing question

I have a Valkyrie tour it has the stock wind sheld on it me and my fiance just finished our first big ride on my valkyrie tour we road from Albuquerque to Houston Tx and then back for a total of 1750miles

the biggest problum we had was with my fiance she was getting a lot of turbulice rideing behind. the wind would come from all directions and was nocking her a round.

I think this is due to the Turbulence that my stock wind screen  I want to get a fairing I have never road a bike with a fairing there is a lot of options out there I want to buy the Corbin Trimtab® Adjustable Fairing but its 1500$ unill I get the money I was thing of geting someing cheaper for now

I added Baker Air Wings and get a nice pocket of still air. I ride solo on my Standard so I don't know how it would be for a passenger but I'll bet it would be a great improvement. Was her head in the turbulence or was it generally coming from all around?

Wind from left and right, and from under the tank can be controlled easily with Air Wings but helmet buffeting is a different matter. A taller windshield is often used for helmet buffeting but there are other options as well.

A set of Bakers AND a set of Memphis Shades lowers or some other brand of deflectors will do wonders for you....like riding behind a wall.....not sure about your passenger though.  

However, a taller windshield will probably do the trick for the passenger.  

Fairings will allow you to use multiple windshields for different conditions and needs.  You can get them very tall to very short, straight/normal windshields or ones with a re-curve at the top.  

Changing windshields out on a fairing only takes a minute or two....literally.  Losen the three bolts, slide out the shield, insert the other shield, tighen the three bolts.....you're done. 

A re-curved windshield is like adding 2 (or more) inches to the top of the windshield.  Could be very usefull depending on whether you like looking though or over your shield.  

As for fairings.....it simply doesn't get any better than a Woodys fairing.  They're made specific for the Valkyrie.  They use standard three-hole windshilds (Harley style) that are the industry standard these days.....meaning there are hundreds if not thousands of windshield sizes, styles, tints and companies to chose from.  

Glenn makes them one at a time built to order.  He doesn't have a bunch of fairings sitting on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere.....he builds them one at a time once you place your order.

I highly recommend the FastAire windshields too.  You can get them straight or with a re-curve (click the Aero Windshields link at the top of the page in the FastAire link for re-curve shields....).  I've got three of them that I use for different needs and different times of the year.

  +1 on the Woody's Bat Wing , but I think the OEM tourer windshield does a pretty good job with wind. I think if you're trying to improve things, the Bakers and the fork deflectors are supposed to improve things. I know that on my Ultimate seats, the passenger also gets stuck a little higher, so like BF said, taller windscreens should improve. When my wife is on board,we just don't do much interstate super slabs. I avoid them usually as well, boring. On her helmet, a half helmet, it had a removable visor. She described a condition where if she would turn her head, at speeds above 65, the wind would grab her helmet and turn her head. I removed the visor from her helmet and that resolved that issue. I am very happy with my Woody's, it gives your hands good protection too during colder rides.

A cheaper fix is adding a spacer to the lower shield mount. It pushes the lower part of the shield out 1 inch. Use a small piece of metal. Cut it 1 1/4 and drill holes one inch apart (center to center). I'm not on my home computer now but I have a picture at home. Do a search for windshield buffetting by "Sandy" to find it.

Whatever you decide to do, remember: your stock windshield hardware is now
"unobtainium" and would cost around $1,000 to replace from Honda, bit by bit.
The $500 kit (windshield plus hardware) is no longer available...

thanks all for the good advice. I like the faring but the problem is I don't like the bat faring and that's all I find looks to much like a Harley clone faring and I don't like the harely bat faring

the one I want is the faring that's on the victory cross country

Talk about limiting your options....and not to mention $pending the dollars it would take to find a Victory Cross Country fairing and then to retro fit it onto a Valk....if that's even possible. 

It would be easier and cheaper to just buy that Corbin thingy you wanted in your first post.

I've never seen it done before, but if you manage to mate a Victory C/C fairing onto a Valk, I'd love to see the pics of how you did it and of the finished installation.

$1500 for a fairing???  Why not just sell the tourer, and put the extra $1500 towards an I/S?

I'm riding behind a Woody's fairing now, and while we still enjoy a nice ride, it isn't quite as calm as it was behind the big Clearview, just sayin'.

I'm riding behind a Woody's fairing now, and while we still enjoy a nice ride, it isn't quite as calm as it was behind the big Clearview, just sayin'.

I've got the Woodys too....and during the winter months, I ride with a 10" shield with a recurve (like adding 2 more inches at the top), freedom wings, bakers and Memphis Shades lowers (deflectors).  It's like riding behind a wall. 

And then during the summer, all of that comes off and I ride with just the lower part of the Bakers turned out to scoop the air and a short shield on the fairing.

Check out the "Rifle Raven" fairings. Not to everyones taste but they are very effective and offer a wide range of options.
