Anybody know what kind of spider this is?

Killed this one last year and just killed one twice this size out in the garage. Kinda like to know one isn't going to kill me some time in the future.

Not a brown recluse.

Some variety of wolf spider. Very common around here (I'm in Texas).

Can bite, but not aggressive, and not particularly venomous to people.

Glad it's not a Brown Recluse. Didn't think they got this big anyway but wasn't sure. The one in the garage looked well fed. Dumped about a pint of ant and roach killer on it and then squished it with a thick wad of paper towels. Overkill but I feel better knowing it ain't gonna crawl away and recuperate.

We call them Wood spiders around here. They can get quite big here in Florida. Totally harmless I'm told, just scare the crap out of you and make you run into a tree or something.

be aware that chemicals will not kill brown recluses,,it only drugs them up and makes them aggressive,,

Wolf spider. I pulled one of these guys out of my pocket after getting out of a customers car. Bad boy was still alive and scared the hell out of me!

Ok, it is a basic wood spider. They canget about 4 inches across at the legs. Totally harmless and eat all the other lil bugs running around. Make really big intricate webs in corner of post, eves, tree branches. Wont hurt you, but, helps get rid of the bugs that eat everything in your garage pr house.
Being that i suffer from severe arachnophobia, i cant have them around me. Tho, i have some in the attic of my garage, just dont see them. When i do, wife take me to er from anxiety attacks, like my heart is stopping.

It's a jumping wood spider, sometimes called a wolf spider. As Jeff mentioned, here in Florida they do get quite large. The babys cling to them so beware when trying to step on em' as the babys go running off everywhere. I get them in the shop during the damp weather....like now..kill at least one a week, ya they scare the crap out of you. As most spiders, you can get a bite from them. It is a nasty infection, must be drained, cleaned and dressed with an antibiotic. Had a bite on my inner leg two months ago from out in the yard doing yard work. Dead thing fell out of my pants leg while shedding cloths in laundry room before shower so I knew what it was from. Actually was pretty concerned for about a week. Doc looked at it, marked the area with a sharpie, said to keep an eye on it and let him know if the area went beyond the marker. Took almost a month to heal and still left a mark but the swelling and redness are gone. They are not like a recluse, black widow, or some of the killer spiders, and not common biters.
