The road opened today but still has some slush on top and gonna be construction through part of August. Might not be the best year to try it on your bike. :(

I was there 2 years ago in august and they were doing construction on the top.  Coming down my buddy and I rode to the front of a long line of cars and this guy talked with us and let us out in front of everyone.  had NO traffic in front of us the entire way down.  On watered down dirt and gravel road.  it was GREAT!

but, I was washing off volcanic ash that was plastered on bike for at least 6 months.

Why not in July?
Construction and one lane traffic on top from now until sometime in August. Delays could be around 45 minutes waiting on shuttle vehicles.

Many years ago I did it in a Motorhome pulling a trailer towing a Landcruiser station wagon.  This was before the restrictions was put on it.  Was on my way to Alaska from Ft Hood Texas, taking in all the scenic wonders on the way.  I enjoyed every beautiful mile, although my S/O got a little antsy on the Going to the Sun with that big rig.  One day I may do it again, sans the Motorhome, I can only wish and dream.  The ALCAN was great also, dirt back then, but thats another story.
