I'm not an emt or medical but this just seems completely wrong to me. She should have tried to help, maybe she didn't have equipment but at least try. Her boss sounds like chicken to me.

I have been in the EMS world since 1988 and I have never met anyone that I believe would do this. Had I not read the article I would never had thought anyone in the EMS world would fail to act in this type of situation.
Further proof that this world is going down the toilet. She is a disgrace to the entire EMS community and all of humanity.

She is/was completely and totally wrong !

I worked EMS for 30 years and NEVER worked with anyone that would've been so callous.

While I don't believe her conduct to be criminal, I do think that it rises to a great level of depravity.

She is obviously in the wrong profession and for all of the wrong reasons.


Anyone, especially someone with medical training should do whatever they can when someone's life is in danger.

I have NO idea how this "woman" has been able to sleep at night.

  I agree.  No legal obligation, but a moral one for sure.  Likely the outcome would not have been different.  I assume the EMS was activated by the employees when the deceased was noted to be in distress.

MODIFY:  and what is a "dispatcher"?  does she know what to do for life threatening problems or is her job more of communication coordinating incoming calls and providers out in the field?

reading this it is even worst, her boyfriend was there also an EMT and it is claimed they both said we are on break and can't do anything. But eventually she did call someone.

She may have been an EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatcher).  We had them at dispatch for both my volunteer Dept and the Mill.  All the skills of an EMT plus the extra training to be able to tell You how to do it over the phone. Doesn't make it any more right though.  Only other consideration is that the article said they didn't have to respond because they were off duty, is it possible that they would not have been legally protected if a mistake had been made.  Does New York have a good Samaritan act that would've protected them had they made a mistake?

no, i'm not embarrassed.  I see people of color hating white people everyday, and there's never anything said against them, or else, you're a racist.....  when I see certain people getting special treatment just because of the color of their skin, that creates a distain for those people.  I've become disgusted with people that get special treatment solely by the color of their skin.  when I've got to pay 100% of my children's college, but had my wife and I gotten a divorce, my kids would have qualified for discounted college assistance along with a free lunch program at school.  the question is; why should I be penalized because I chose to live a responsible life style while those that haven't  get credits and discounts?

There's nothing to get, Meathead.  He reinforced his bigotry with more bigotry.  He saw a PICTURE of a black person and ASSUMED that, because he encounters blacks that don't like whites, ALL blacks don't like whites and would let them die, because they were white.   Then he added more garbage that has nothing to do with the story, or any specific race at all, to excuse his racism.  I'm almost embarrased for him because he probably doesn't even realized it.

My take on it is the union didn`t pressure him but the city lawyers did because they didn`t want to admit guilt and have to pay out in a lawsuit. Just speculation on my part, don`t really know but he should be ashamed of himself.
