Just found out they are monitoring all emails at work and a few of us are in deep trouble or could be if the bosses wanted to take it further.

I can sort of see their point since it is on company time and some emails are basically bitching about a fellow co-worker but hey, if it is the truth and the boss and the useless co-worker are best friends,  let them monitor all they want.  That somewhat useless co-worker who has been there for like 20 years and is the bosses best bud has a file 4" tall of complaints and wrong doing against her and yet she has said she CANNOT GET FIRED.  ANYWHERE ELSE IN AMERICA and that co-worker would've been fired 19 years ago she gets away with murder 2-3 hours per night on cell phone and internet and pawns work off onto others and yet she still has a job.  Even phone records were pulled on her and NOTHING GOT DONE ABOUT IT WHICH REALLY PISSES ME OFF SINCE I AM THE ONE MAINLY WHO HAS TO PICK UP THE SLACK WHEN SHE WASTES HOURS PER NIGHT.   Oh, by the way,  she left at 6 p.m. only 3 hours into her shift tonight since she felt sick which basically leaves me with most of the work in a 2 person 2nd shift office - gotta love it - SO NOT!

If I ever get out of there, I am going to the HR manager and having a 3 hour conversation of what all is wrong with that office like it will do any good.  If only HR knew the harrassment and total lack of equality/favoritism towards 1-2 employees there is in my mind no way our boss would still have a job.  Luckily, the harrassment has never come my way or I'd be all over that in a heartbeat outside of HR at work and going elsewhere like a lawyer for a huge lawsuit being filed against the employer.  Maybe that might get HR's attention then?????

RANT OVER.

I thought you were talking about my office...verbatim. Every work place has one.
This is how I deal with it...I concern myself with my job, my attitude and my tongue, things I can control. I refuse to get sucked into the negative gossip at work. Don't take it home with you.
Good luck, it's hard.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!

I'm isolated from most of the ranting from the guys on the floor, I'm on the second floor in the upholstery shop away from the drama.

I've been there too, used to work with a guy in the post office that LIVED for strife. he would needle you and needle you until you lashed out (verbally) and then he would run to the supervisor and whine about being picked on. I don't really hate anyone on the planet, but it's real close to hate even after all these years. :tickedoff:

Whoa there big feller.   Tell me where in the world the folks who work with you ever got the idea they had the right to use company equipment, resources and paid time to carry on their own party or bitch session.   The "boss" has every right to review the result of or product being produced while using company owned equipment and time paid for by the company.   Sorry but, getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar isn't the way to endear one's self to the boss.   Besides that, griping about the boss or the boss's friend and leaving a path back to yourself isn't exactly the best way to endear yourself.   I mean really.

Most work places have similar problems, there's almost always one employee that other's feel receive special treatment, bitching about it isn't going to change it.   Getting yourself fired won't either.   Leaving the gossiping, bitching, whining and complaining to the water cooler area, lunch room or parking lot is a much better plan.

I agree with all you said, but NO ONE but us in the small office knows what is going on and I don't want to rant for hours about all that has been going on you all wouldn't believe it.  It's pretty bad and we all have no respect not one bit for our supervisor (or 2 supervisors) since if leading by example is any indication, both leaders should be fired for illegal harrassment years ago.  The one co-worker who gets away with murder and hours per night wasted on company time since she is so far up the bosses butt kissing it doesn't just affect her job, but others mostly me who has to pick up the slack almost each night since we both have same jobs basically.  Getting rid of the 2 supervisors who have been there forever and the slacker co-worker is the only way things will change or just quit and find another job which I'm trying but no luck so far.  ONe lady who use to work with us on 2nd shift wanted to switch to 1st shift simply because she didn't want to basically be that lazy co-worker's bitch slave.

I'd suggest that you document stuff very discreetly.
Just a little notebook, maybe even a cell phone capture of her playing solitaire..
Not knowing where you are located, I don't know if I'd record or not as to the legal rights to do that...

Then I'd go to HR....

Had a complaint against me once by a civilian contractor who parked her car in the Middle of parking lot blocking the travel/fire lane...

Fortunately, on Monday when I got hauled in over it, I said fine, and produced the pictures of her car blocking the parking lot... Also produced a statement from the person that was with me.... Seems that this "lady" was a civilian contractor and didn't exactly have the best reputation and a long way down the list for employee of the month.....

Don't think she was ever back in the building after that one..

If she is getting by with as much as you say, I would bet that her and the boss are "Friends with Benefits".

If that's the case then the boss has no choice, either he "overlooks" her transgressions or his will come to light.

Even a dog knows not to crap where he eats, some humans however never learn that.

BTW: NO EMAILS especially work emails should ever be considered to be "Private".

A company monitoring their work computers and how they are used is NOT an invasion of privacy.
There is no expectation of privacy in that setting.  Likely spelled out very clearly in employment or employee guidelines.

I tell my staff you do not have privacy when you are on my computer in fact they all know we have a keystroke monitor. i can look at everything they type on the computer, word for word. and that is NOT an invasion of privacy.

As long as you are getting paid for the work you do, even if someone else should be doing it, what does it matter that someone else is getting paid for work she isn't doing. If she's not delaying your deliverables, the only issue is between her and her boss.  You do work; you get paid for that work; you are being treated fairly.

Black Dog

My work computer has stickers on it that say use is monitored.  When I log in, it says the same...  It is their right to be sure that assets are being used correctly.  Nothing is private anymore  :-\

You didn't by chance make this forum post from the office computer did you???   Based on your comment about second shift, her leaving at 6pm and leaving you with work etc.... and noting the time.....   They can legally monitor that activity as well.....      :o   ;)

Try logging onto a government/military computer.  It takes several minurtes just to get past all of the warnings.

If that's not enough, they have IT people that routinely log onto and into your computer and scan you and everything on that computer.....and they can do that whether you'r logged on or not....and you never know when they're scanning.

That said cookie, I'd reconsider going to HR.....that is, unless you're already hired somewhere else first.

This is the advice I gave Stanley Steamer when he posted about how bad his job sucks.........

Speaking soley from my experiences and working for 6 different DOD contractors (all on the same DOD contract at the same facility), HR isn't there FOR the employees.....HR is there to protect senior management FROM the employees.

What you tell HR is not always, if ever, going to be held in confidence.

Remember that HR IS senior management.....birds of a feather and all of that.

Remember that when you talk to HR, you ARE talking to senior management and there's an extremely high probability that your complaints are being directly relayed to the jackass your complaining about.

While I agree to great extent with BF, HR is there to protect the company or organization.   I've seen HR get involved and the upper manager get the axe.   Though, it's not unusual for the whistle blower to follow that upper manager out the door a short time later.

My dreams may be coming true:  I may get fired over what me and the other lady said to each other about the _itch at work who kisses butt to the boss and gets away with murder.  Somehow the _itch got ahold of the email me and the other lady had on her and the _itch told me tonight she is highly considering going to HR.  Let the chips fall where they may!  :cooldude: :2funny: :crazy2:

I'm pretty much looking forward to it although I doubt she will, just a scare tactic, since if I wasn't there she might have to get off her fat keester and work for a change a full 8 hour day.
