Lets face it.  Everybody has a camera these days.  Although cops video every traffic stop and many other matters, they themselves, hate being filmed.

You may be within your rights to film cops while they are working, but you better not have done anything that they can scrutinize.  Cops, like everyone else, get together and 'spin' their stories to be seen by a judge or jury to optimize their effects.  Cops like it when its 'the authorities' vs. the 'suspects' stories in court.

When a new element is added to the equation, such as a video shot by a bystander that may contest the official story, cops become understandably edgy.  I happen to believe if a cop does his job and follows established guidelines and codes of conduct, they have nothing to worry about.

The first thing I noticed on this video, is the dog was not very well trained by the way he acted on the leash.  Nothing about this dog gave me any indication that he was attack minded, he showed very little interest in what was going on.  The next thing, the man had filmed enough and was leaving.  Possibly, he knew the cops were becoming irritated at his filming.  Only after the man started to leave did the cops decide to confront him.  Was it that he was parked too close to the intersection?  Or why?

Did the dog think he was being left and wanted to be with his owner?  He seemed more confused than aggressive to me.  Could pepper spray or a taser have been used instead of killing him?  Is it policy to shoot a dog if you feel threatened?

I'm not knocking cops and I know they do a really professional job in tough situations every day.

I just don't think the dog had to be killed.

The dog jumped up at the cop, it got shot.  I see nothing wrong with it.

The dog had jumped towards his owner, but then was sniffing around on the ground.  That's when cop number 3 surprised the dog by walking up to him rapidly with his gun.  The dog seemed more spooked and confused than anything else.

That whole incident was absolute BS ! I don't see a thing that fella did wrong. He probably should have left a bit sooner. And he should have been allowed to control the dog, by maybe closing the car windows enough so the dog couldn't get out. I see no reason to shoot the dog, that dog was not aggressive in my opinion. Plus, that cop can't shoot for crap. I think the fella has a good law suit.

Arrested for filming? Law suit coming, arrestee will win. Dog will be very expensive. Shooter will probably change careers or at least place of employment.

The cops looked right at the young people across the street that were filming the man that was filming the cops and didn't bother with them.  Was it because they were on the other side of the street?  Or was there another reason?

I'd like to meet that little fish taco down an alley with a baseball bat. F'in dumb little crap.

All of them bunch of BIG men with their BIG guns. Bastards.

All they had to do was let the guy move to his dog. Ignorant ass wipes.

That made me sick for a few reasons first the guy was filming the cops when they were doing a take down. Wrong. He was also too close and paced back and forth. Next the cops were annoyed and distracted at the filming, pacing, dog in close proximity and retaliated by arresting him, wrong. Next a loving dog gets shot, extra wrong. All because the kid was too stupid to know what would happen. He knew he was going to get arrested but didn't think the dog would jump out of a open window?  The legalities will be decided, dog did jump at the cop but really he was not vicious. Tensions/adrenalin on the cops and kid were to high. I'm sorry it made me sick to watch. I am sorry I did, wtf happened to common sense? Everyone was a loser in that video including the cops, I'm sure they did not want what happened. In answer to your question sure it could have been avoided. Taser, training, baton, control proximity or just control stupidity. Cops carrying M16s how close do you want to be?

truer words were never spoken!  seems they were harrassing a citizen who wasn't doing anything wrong.  not sure why they detained him?

Could it be that his car was illegally parked too close to an intersection?

I know there's some lawyers on this board....I'd love to hear from them.

However, I don't see where the guy did anything wrong, much less anything wrong that warranted an arrest and handcuffs.

that doesn't seem like much of a detainable offense, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure how long ago the 'puppy picture' was taken.  This could be kinda like seeing Travon in his Jr. High football suit......

The dogs tail was up the entire time.  He ran on over to where his owner was, and even though his owner was being manhandked by the police, the dog took the time to sniff the grass at the feet of them all.  There was no aggression at all.  Then, when the dog jumped, it was NOT in an aggressive motion.  The dog practically jumped straight up and not forward and not from an aggressive crouched position.

Stupid cop.

Here in NY recently, I think it was in Rockland County, the cops busted in to find less than an ounce of personal use weed and shot the dog.  You could hear the owner cry "Why'd you do that, he only wanted to play".

Like I mentioned in my first post, this pisses me off to no end. I hope that fella wins a big law suit, and, I hate law suits, but, this is a good place for one. Those cops are out of control, they need a change in career. It may only be a dog some might say, but, thats not the point to me. Everything they did was wrong.

Interesting replies.   A lot depends on your perspective I suppose.

Having been on the receiving end of a large dog attack, I have no issue with what the LEO did.   I'd have emptied the magazine.    Don't think I don't like large dogs, I do.  My own is a 150 + lb. Bulmastif.    But, I don't like aggressive dogs and I definitely don't trust them.   I've been on the receiving end and I didn't like it much.

As much as I love our dogs, they are all big, if one turned aggressive, he'd be dead and buried before the sun went down.   I really don't understand what got the guy arrested except his presence within a police barricaded area but, I have to assume there's some background info I am not privy to.    Regardless, IMHO, the dog's death is totally the fault of the owner.     Why would anyone take their pet into such a situation?   Why didn't he close up that vehicle when he put the dog in it?     IMHO, the owner is at fault.   I'm thinking he was looking for trouble and found it based on what I saw in the video.

It is bad enough that the dog got shot. But I think the bigger issue is with the entry team going into the house. What if they heard the gun fire and thought it was toward them. I guess I just dont trust leos. Slap a badge on their chest and they think they are god. I know there are some good police officers out there but the bad ones out weight them 10 to 1 and the bad ones give the good ones bad raps. No wonder people dont trust cops anymore.
