Gig texted me he was riding out near Cody Wy with Theresa and the front Metzler delaminated on him doing 60mph  I think he said he was on 120

He was towed (AMA) to a shop and is getting a new dunlop on the Victory tonite. The owner was staying late.

Gig you are one lucky son of a gun to be riding again so soon after near disaster with no injuries save to your drawers    :o   I suppose

Good thing it didnt happen tomorrow on Beartooth    :-\

See you a week from Sunday in Michigan and post the name of the shop that gave you the star treatment.

Interesting.

Last year I had a front Metzler do that while on a trip.  Everytime I stopped to fuel I could smell rubber.  About the third time I realized the front tire was coming apart.  I made it to a dealer in Montreal and got a new E3.

Here is the culprit:

A new Meteler ME880 REAR Tire.
We had just come out of some great twisties on HWY14 West of Sheridan WY through Shell Canyon, and were just outside Cody on a flat road when it just let go. Couldn't get the plug to stay in, so it got flatbeded to Cody Custom Cycles where Ray went above and beyond to take care of us!

And no, you will NOT see any pics of my bike on a trailer:tickedoff:

I've been riding since 1970 and have about 600,000 miles under my belt.  I've owned some fairly quick (for their day) bikes, like a Kaw KZ-900, Suzuki GS-1000 and GS1100, Honda V-65 Sabre, and the original 1 litre Concours.  Most of these bikes had tubed, narrow (compared to today) tires.  However, I never saw the kind of failures I read about now.  Even my Valk's OEM DunFLOP delaminated at 6,800 miles.  Maybe it's just more information thanks to the internet, but it sure seems like they don't build them like they used to!

I'll be sure to stop in cody and give them thx for hookin a brotha up.  :cooldude:

I think that last sentence sums it all up.  NOTHING is made like it used to be.

You surely had some very fast and very nice cycles in your stable thru the years.

Mr Whiskey

Hey man, we were campin' over the holiday & this is the first I saw.
Glad y'all's okay!
Was that tire made in Germany, or Brazil?
I only ask cause I'm runnin' a German made 880 on the front.
Peace, Whiskey.

We're OK, thanks, Buddy!  :cooldude:
Wish we were still on Vaca, though...
Hope yun's havin fun campin', we been thinkin about y'all!   ;)

So, how do I know if it was made in Germany or Brazil?
The tire is marked: DOT EB 31 E225 2612

Does the "EB" designate Brazil?
Does it matter?

Cheers,

Mr Whiskey

Mine's got "Germany" stamp'd into the sidewall.
Heard the Brazilian ones had some issues! I had Dennis Kirk go check & make sure mine was a German before I completed the order.

Rain'd almost every day we was campin! Took my boots a week to dry out.
Couldn't get in the South Toe River after the 3rd day. Water came up almost 10' in like 5 hours.
So we jus' stay'd drunk, & muddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a BLAST!

Lookin' forward to seein' ya's next month if that's still good?
Watch out for those Grimlins Brother!
Peace, Whiskey & Sugar.
Peace, Whiskey.

GiG

Whiskey, we are SO looking forward to seeing y'all!
LuLu was asking if you were bringing your namesake...

That Metz is at the dealership now, so I guess I'll go there and see if it says "Brasil" on it.
Hopin to get re-imbursed.

Campin sounds like a BLAST! Wet & Muddy & Drunk!

CHEERS,
