45 mpg Valk

There seems to be a wide range of mpg on the Valkyries that are out there. Some as low as 25mpg . I used to get a steady 42mpg and before I went to the darkside 5 yrs ago 205/55  A slightly lower tire profile dropped my mileage to about 37-38. A spark plug vendor at the Wing Ding last year was claiming a 10 % min mpg increase with their plug so with the Arkansas Inzane just around the corner i thought i would give them a try. I was skeptical about their claim, but guess what guys , they work ! Coming back from Inzane our group was stopping every 100 miles for gas and heat relief. Everybody in the group was putting 2.8 gal plus in their tanks. I was putting in 2.2 everytime ! If i would go to a 205/60 , 205/65 or a motorcycle tire i'm betting i can get close to 50 mpg !

+2 on name of plugs and where to get them.  I'm a tad still skeptical that a change of plugs will increase 10%, but worth a shot if I can go from 35 avg mpg to 38-39, they would be worth it for sure even at say 6-7 bucks per plug.

Any one that guarantees a 10% increase in MPG is full of it. I'd be very skeptical.

I'm not EEEZZRIDER but he doesn't post often so I'll try to answer. He was at my house last weekend telling me this same thing and I think he said the name of the plug was "Halo" plugs. Not sure of the spelling, but I think ya'll can pronounce it.

not saying that these plug will do what they are saying they will do.  But I have tried other plugs that was to increase your mpg and the only thing it done was help the cold start up.
and I don't think that the government would let anyone make or build anything that would give you more mpg.

 First question is,   how old were the plugs you took out?   Just a change to new plugs will bring back some MPG.     Unless you changed air filter, or mixtures I say it is Snake Oil.

I got my first 40+ numbers ever (41mpg) on my last tank of gas by I think just taking it easy on the throttle this week. Not trying to, it just happened. Using regular gas and regular spark plugs. It's taken over two years of ownership to have a period where I didn't get on it a lot I reckon. Hard to do I know. She likes to scoot.

I figured i would get a lot of skeptics and to answer some of the questions so here we go. I ride interstate speeds just like all of you do. The spark plugs that were taken out were about a 1 1/2 yrs old.  The plugs were Halo but I don't remember price. I get approx. 160 miles b4 switching to reserve. I run a 6 degree trigger wheel have a K&N air filter and a Corbin Fairing and run a 205/55 Falken. I just put on a new Bridgestone so I'm not sure yet if my mileage will change any with the switch. I have found little change in mileage whether i burn regular or premium gas so I burn regular most of the time. My mileage has always been good with this bike

One more thing, I ride one up 99% of the time and with the new tire install, spline and final drive were good at the 93000 mile mark. Some of the posts kinda sounded like some thought that I'm a Valk newbie, but i can assure you I've been around the VRCC since the beginning and have been to all the Inzanes except out west. Just because I have grey hair doesn't mean i'm soft on the throttle ! lol !

45 mpg is even better than the 43 mpg that I average on my Strom. I won't say that it's not possible but I've seen many 'new and different' spark plugs over the years and none of them lived up to their claims as of yet.

However, I've known Ron for some time, he's been active in the VRCC and Inzanes,  and he definitely doesn't ride like "a little ole lady"

those halo plugs are the same type i used to run in my sprint car back in the early 80's..we called them jet plugs

I have found over the years of riding Valks that speed has everything to do with mileage.  If I'm on the interstate 65 and up mileage goes down significantly. If riding back roads 45 to 55, I have no problem getting mid to upper 40's mpg. Riding places like the Blue Ridge Parkway got 47.6

Tire profile (within reasonable range) has little to do with mileage. Takes the same power to go a given speed regardless of the "ratio" or RPM's that gets you there...as I said...within reason...that's why the Mario gears didn't do anything for mileage.

On the Valk...it's all in the wrist.

I can average 40-42 mpg easily while riding the BRP.

I have gotten 48 mpg on the BRP but that was riding with my older brother who rides VERY conservatively.


My usual average is 36-38mpg.

If I've been hitting the twisties particularly hard the mpg's tend to drop much closer to 30.

Riding Two up and pulling a trailer on the Interstate averaged 29mpg.

Hey, I wasn't calling anyone a liar...I believe you could get 45 miles to the gallon out of a Valk...but as Daniel said it is all in how you're twisting on it...maybe after I've had mine a couple of years mine will go up...but I didn't buy it for fuel economy....I like to twist on it...makes me smile...

Late 60s or early 70s I tried a set of what I believe they called surface gap plugs. Had I believe like 6 electrodes that did not have a lot of room between them and I KNOW they fouled out rather quickly.  Stayed with standard plugs to this very day. RIDE SAFE.

The only time my Valk has gotten 40 something mpg was when I was riding out on the Keys..the speed limit there is 45 mph....
