remember the guy that made his gas tank real wide to hold 10 gallons his bike is a tourer / interstate  with some custom mods its for sale on the classifieds page his user name is silver he is from san diego

The big nine gallon ones being sold some years ago were notorious leakers.

It should hold up fine.  He did it right.  Took it to a metal shop, they added a strip on each side of metal, to widen it.  Then sanded and painted.  Metal should be fine.

The other big tanks were made of a plastic or fiberglass, and they developed leaks over time.  This one should not, as it is all metal, welded in there to widen an OEM IS tank.
