That's really sad.  They cited unfamiliarity with the bike, I wonder if he had any other riding experience.

A childhood neighbor and friend of my family was killed in an accident the day after he got his Harley. He was stopped at an intersection and a older man behind him did not stop.  He had that HD only one day, he was separated from his wife (divorce imminent) and all his life insurance policies went to her.  I don't even know if she paid for the funeral.   Very sad..... for all concerned.

I got rear ended at a light on my first ride home*. I know I had a big grin on my face at the time because it was my first bike. 

My wife and I had taken the MSF course so that we could get licenses.  Our plan was to occasionally rent harleys.  After the class I convinced her that I should purchase a used Magna because a couple of weekends in a parking lot was not enough experience to rent a harley. Which was true. 

AFter being rear ended I had a careflight that i don't remember because of the concusion (new helmet may have been a little loose...replaced it with a better fitting helmet)

Paid 5K for the Magna.  The insurance company paid 5K to repair the magna.



  (*hit by my wife who was driving our dodge dakota quad cab.  up until she hit me i thought the large bull guard we had installed on the the front of the dakota was a good ideal  )

Similar story here a couple of years ago. Girl on a 1200 crotch rocket, still had paper plates, was killed due to unfamiliar with bikes.  This was her FIRST bike!!

Story is she went to one dealer to buy this bike with money in hand but they wouldn't sell it to her due to her inexperience. Tried to talk her into a lower CC bike to start with and learn.  Nothing doing.  She goes to a dealer down the street and buys this monster CR. A week later she wrecks and ...

Couple of years ago a local Zuke dealer sold a kid a Busa, dealer brought it out of the store and parked in front.  Dude jumped on and slammed it into the front of the store.  Saw it a couple of months later and all the plasltic was covered with a massive amount of duct tape.  Kid was scabbed up a little, but still alive.

Getting bad flashbacks from your story. 

Wife and I traveled up to Reading PA from VA to get my first interstate... in our Dodge Dakota club cab.  She followed me on the way home; I told her I would take it easy in center lanes, and to stay close enough to not lose me, but not to tailgate me either.  On the ride home in terrible I-95 eastern seaboard traffic, got in a horrendous, lightning, thunderstorm deluge which caused traffic to go from 70-15-70-20-70-15 mph.  Visibility sucked and I watched the grille get huge in the mirrors and nearly smack me in the rear end several times... I finally had to quit looking.   I lived with no accident, but pretty sure I lost a few years off my lifetime on that little trip.   

Our Dodge is Patriot Blue.

Very sad. Back in 2002 was a salesman at local honda shop. Saw several people crash just leaving the shop with new bike. They would swear up and down they had experience and then crash. Most times you could tell when they didnt have the experience but not always. Did get to ride multiple types of new bikes home for customers.    Fell in love with the phat girl at that job.
