**Colorado Riders** Pikes Peak Ride

I have always wanted to ride my Valk up Pikes Peak and thought.. Why not make an event of it? Wouldn't it be glorious to see a bunch of Valks at 14,115 feet? Lets do it!

You think a valk will run at that elevation. I think your going to lose a lot of torque. Skiing above 11K starts to get hard. 14K is nearly imposable.

Doggone it, that's the day we return from our Yellowstone ride!  Maybe next year (2nd Annual?).

Not expecting a drag race up there. I have had mine up to 12k feet. Im sure 14k is possible.

I've ridden to Mt Evans several times.  The highest road served elevation in North America at 14,265.  A couple hundred ft higher than Pikes Peak.  Normally aspirated engines lose about 3% power per 1,000 ft elevation.  Runs fine to the top - just not as much juice on tap.

Sorry can't join you this time - I'll be in WI.  Though I want to ride the new paved road as well.  Next time - or I'm likely to do it this summer anyway.

I rode an old airhead BMW up there once in the 80's.  Took a fall in the loose gravel and got a little road rash on my elbow.  By the time I got up there I was so light headed I couldn't hardly stand up.   I was even afraid to ride my bike out of there.   I walked into the store/cafe or whatever it is at the top and asked if they had any medical assistance there and the lady looked at me and said "No sir, but you need to get off this mountain, your lips are turning blue.".    I went outside to leave, got on my bike, and it wouldn't crank.  Not enough air up there for it to crank so I headed it downhill and started it that way.    Beautifull scenery up there though.    About 10 yrs later I went up there again on a BMW K bike with some other guys.   I didn't have near the problems as the first time.   Could breathe ok and everything, don't know what the difference was.    On the way up the second time we got about 1/4 from the top and there was a big crowd of people around a Guiness Book of Records truck.    There was a young guy who on summer break from college and spent all summer pushing a peanut up the mountain with his nose....he was 1/4 mile from the top.....he he.  He had a head gear with a strap that attached to a little spoon on his nose and he had pushed a peanut with his nose all the way to the top.  Took him 3 months.

Ive heard that pikes peak is paved all the way to the top now . It wasnt when I rode my valk to the top in '03 . Had to idle it up some and had a very noticeable power loss but had no problem with the climb just lots of dust in the eyes from all the cars .

Went there to do it a few years ago to do it, but the road was in so bad of shape decided to ride around to the other side ad take the cog train instead.  Was a hoot, did do Mount Evans though.  Want impressive, The One Armed Bandit did Evans with a passenger on board.

Highbinder and I did Pikes Peak on our Valks  .. They had NO issues what so ever  ....

I've had my Valk to over 16,000 feet several times in South America. It will run just fine, a little flat but it will be okay. Have fun, I wish I was there too.

Been there done that on my 2000 interstate that has had no mods no issue,s whatsoever

If i at home you can count me in maybe going to mn to pickup wifes new trike if not will meet up and ride with all of you

I just looked at the forecast for Pikes Peak on Friday.  A 50% chance of thunderstorms with a high temp of 54.  I was thinking of riding up there since I haven't gone since they paved it to the top, but that sounds a bit cool and wet.

Wife and I rode ours up (she has a 750 shadow) on June 12 this year.
Paved all the way except the parking lot. Road is really outstanding considering where the road is.
Slight loss of power in the upper elevations. Just use a lower gear and increase RPMs a bit.

You guys need to plan this stuff when I'm around too. LOL

No problem with mine.  Hardly noticed the difference.
