I can attest to this. a few months ago in my middle class neighborhood, swat team showed up, w/the turret armored vehicle with battering ram for a 26 yr old who didn't show up for a court appearance for stealing jewerly from the store where he worked. this is his parents house where he lives. swat shows up at 2 am. town online report lied about the course of events from actually what happened.

Read a few paragraphs and then my head started to hurt.  Obviously anti swat/cop article.  16 marijuana yields quite a bit of marijuana....but I'm sure his excuse is he uses the marijuana to make butter and mj butter requires a lot of mj.

There are some cities that use swat teams for every search warrant.  Not sure why.  In California, as whacky as many of you call us....we are pretty progressive in our policing and many agencies use a threat matrix before calling swat.  Unless the bad guy has guns, is known to use or carry them, or his crime was violent, most swat teams don't get involved.

For the article to bash cops for having assault type weapons and armored vehicles is crazy to me.  Cops...especially swat teams, are often times called to deadly situations.  Why not have the protection?   Why not have the better weapons?   Many of you wouldn't bring a one shot musket to a gun fight, so why should cops be forced to expose themselves to further danger.

I agree that in some areas, swat teams may be over used.  I'm sure as time goes by and lawsuits and court cases are heard some changes will be made.

Where's the outrage from the disgusting Dem/Lib/Prog scum news and civil leaders?

Is this true?  If so I agree, where the hell's the outrage and media coverage?

When the Police militarize, unlike the military that is prepaired to meet any foreign enemy, it is you the public that has become the enemy.  It turns the time honored slogan "To protect and serve." around 180 degrees.  These guys are adrenilin junkies and live for confrontation.  I spent a few years flying Air Rescue, working closely with a bunch of them, some were paramedics that flew with me regulary, and nothing was better than when they could suit up and go into action.  I am not in favor of a police force with military style arms, thanks, and tactics, you might as well be under Marshall Law.   It is a slippery slope that due to human nature leads to abuses and malfeasence.

Hoser

I found out that I wasn't much of a cop fan when I was one for a year.  Whole different outlook from the citizens than my 35 years in the fire service.  I suppose it had a lot to do with the fire department showing up it's to help.  If the police show up your'e probly in trouble.  ???  Hoser

CA, I rarely agree with you about anything, but fer sure, the militarization of the police, and the increasingly violent tactics of SWAT teams, who are being used where they should not be used, is truly concerning.

In Sugar Land, Texas, there was a similar SWAT story... a man whose probation was probably going to be revoked was to be served with court papers for the revocation hearing.  When they could not immediately serve him, the SWAT team came out and knocked his mother's door down.  For the service of a citation?  It's pure crap.

Liberty Bell

I live in a town of 3500 people with a police force of 5 officers...
They just put in a request for a 50 cal sniper rifle (fortunately, the Town Council had the good sense to say NO).... Range on the rifle is twice the length of the town!

Now, in this case probably the boys just wanting a new toy at the tax payer's expense, sure as hell not needed..... I offered them one of my ole .303 Enfields they'd only been out for a scope...

Way to many police forces are getting way to aggressive.  There are reports every day of abuses.
The folks in Las Vegas who were arrested for resisting arrest and obstruction because they would not let the police use their hose as a command post for a call on the neighbors?
All the crap that went on up in Boston when they were looking for two little punks?

And too many police officers in small rural communities are wantabee military but couldn't get in so they have an attitude that they have to prove they are a bad ass.... NOT a good combination.
One of the local officers pulled his gun on a naked drunk. Never did explain what the perceived threat was as she was passed out on the grass and no one else was in the immediate area....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the expectation of arriving in one pretty, well preserved piece but, to be skidded into broadside at full speed, battered, bruised, and thoroughly used up, having poked the grim reaper in the eye shouting "GERONIMO"

Waco, TX coming to your town.  More taxes, more police, more no knock warrants.  I forget whos fault is it?

I think that this may be one thing that you I can agree upon as well.
