the question is, why wasn't the cycle slowing down for a school bus? i know some states are different, but usually when a school bus is letting out kids (or one kid) there's a stop sign that is deployed.

It's not a school bus but a city transit bus.  Kid had mounted his bike to the front of the bus and was going to retrieve it.

Lucky nobody was seriously hurt.  Not too many escape routes on this crash.

Don't know what the car was doing, but in broad daylight the bike had plenty of time to stop.

Does not look like he even tried/started to stop.  He needs another hobby.

looks like his helmet is bouncing down the road,  (17 sec. mark) when the camera scans to the back.

I bet the guy (?) driving the car was going to pick up the kid. That's why the car came in front of the bus and the kid began to walk in front of it.

Given the situation with the bus, the bike was going awfully fast and seemed to have had more than enough distance to avoid this. But surely, the car entering the roadway as it did must be illegal as hell.
