if you look at it, just a few tenths of a second before the accident, you'll see that the car does have break lights, I couldn't see a turn signal due to bright sunlight, but it does look like there's a driveway for the car to turn left into.  on the right, there seems to be several cars parked in a field, so maybe some sort of tractor pull, or auction going on.  there was PLENTY of room for the guy to swing around the right side of the car had he not locked up a death grip on the handle bar!!  also, it looks like the cycle rider favors the right side of the road since that's where most of the riding was in the video.

I would suggest the cycle rider take some basic safe courses if he ever chooses to ride cycle again....

I would say more inattention than anything.  You can see the car stopped, but he does not let off the throttle at all, until just before the wreck.

And, that is exactly how we mc riders get hit from behind.  Watch your mirrors, bike in gear, ready to MOVE if you see that coming from behind.

Think I heard the brake being applied just before crash, bet it was only the rear brake.

But like said, he could easily have avoided the car.

Yeah, I watched that several times.... very little front brake, no dive on the forks, but a squawk on the back brake/tire.  Course, you need to start sooner.

not saying the cycle driver was not at fault, but the car did NOT have brake lights or turn signals on I believe either.  Both car and cycle driver should get a ticket.  Could've been easily avoided with a simple move to the right or braking earlier on and slowing down.  Some people though have no recollection of the distance in front of their car to the next car in front of them (poor depth perception or something like that).  My mother in law in her early 70's is like this and always errors on the side of caution and is TOOO safe of a driver (too much defensive driver) which can be just as bad as an offensive driver who pulls out at the last minute. 

I see some people stop behind a vehicle in front that have well over 1 car's lengths distance between them while stopped I sometimes feel like driving around them on the scooter or cycle and pulling in between the 2 cars.

Have you ever tried doing an emergency start to avoid a driver smashing into you from behind whilst going hard left or right to get around an obstruction in front of you???

Try it on your bike and in your cage.

Hopefully you'll find out how much room to leave between you and the vehicle in front in the future.

My two pennies wurth. I could see him closing on the cage in the video. I lived most of my life on the highways across this country and my mantra then as now-ALWAYS expect the UNEXPECTED. Simple to say difficult at best to implement. Head on a swivel-eyes up-keep distractions to none or bare bones minimums. The boy WAS NOT paying attention and completely lost his S A-situational awareness. Cages ARE out to get us anyway they can. Paranoid you say?? Maybe BUT it wurx fer me. S A is NOT just for serving military-it's for us a Motorcycle Riders also. Keep alert-aware and NEVER EVER NEVER forget where you are or what you're doing no matter what it is. I would prefer my ride on my Phatt Ghurl ends some what like it started-returning my lady to her cave after a nice ride.  To put it simply-he f----- up-LARGE.  RIDE SAFE.

I only watched it twice and I clearly see brake lights. There not very bright probably because of the sun and poor video. However even if there were no lights and the car was at a dead stop in the road it is still the riders fault. He is lucky he landed on the trunk as he is wearing no gloves and would have needed a close friend to wipe his ass for a while.

Even with his lack of awareness, he still had time to make a quick dodge to the right, and go around the car.  Quick countersteer to the right, then back to the left right away.  Then a stop to change his shorts!  But, no wreck.  Looked like a REAL poor, or inexperienced rider.

wear gloves, the asphalt is tougher then your callouses.

wear a helmet, the asphalt is tougher then your head. (although my wife seems to think it's a tie in my case  )

First, no getting around the fact that the rider screwed the pooch on this one.

He was going pretty fast. Looks like 70 -80 on the speedo.

The car was not stopped. It was slowing down. You can see the car go by the center line. I think he was going to make a right turn. If you notice there are a number of cars to the right. Looks like a ball field maybe?
This could have been why the right side wasn't an option. But it did seem like a way out.

Right before the collision the rider looks to the right, so something briefly distracted him right before.

I too ride at times with a camera. It's attached to my helmet and sometimes I do find myself briefly distracted by trying to keep the subject in the frame a little longer.

We are also looking at what the camera is looking at, not necessarily what the rider was looking at.

But bottom line, the rider screwed the pooch.
