Maybe life is like a box of chocolates, as Forrest Gump said.  "You never know what you'll get"

Today, I found out that one of my riding buddies from the '40's is in assisted living.  He's three years younger than me.  He has severe short term memory and the beginnings of Altzeimers desease.

It seems like only yesterday that we rode together on our Matchlesses .  He was the one who couldn't figure out how I could beat him when our Matchlesses were exactly the same.....but that's another story.  He quit riding long ago.  Since then, I took him for a ride twice.  First on an '86 GW and then, in 1998, a ride on the Valkyrie.  He enjoyed both.

I couldn't help but ponder on this today, especially after I rode a modest 120 miles to and from my favorite state park Thursday for a solitary but enjoyable picnic.  I have been blessed.  I can still do most of what I want to do and I'm still independent (my kids tell me almost too much so., :)).

I can't help but think that having friends here on the VRCC helps.

Yes, Wayne, it saddens us when our friends are in diminished health. I'm sorry to hear about that.

On the otber hand, I agree that you are blessed and an inspiration to us who look forward to many more years of riding-thanks to your example.

That standing ovation you got at InZane in Bellaire, Michigan was well-deserved . I sure hope I can still ride at your age... Truth be told I just hope I'm still around ... Ride On Wayne... I admire you  :cooldude:

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

You are a inspiration to us all. Keep going till you cannot and never as long as it is within your power give up.  :cooldude:

Thanks again, Wayne, my dearest friend has dementia & short term memory loss. I cherish what's left, and like you, am grateful for my blessings. Thanks for setting an example of living to the fullest.
