Buried one of my best friends today.

I was a pall bearer for one of my best friends today. We go all the way back to kindergarten and he  curently just lived one block from my house. His family has owned the movie theaters here in Sedalia since the 1920's. He was currently managing the theater until his health failed. Seth was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer about 3 years ago. He never smoked anything a day in his life, he was pretty much a straight arrow. I watched him slowly decline and spent time with him everyday for the last two weeks while he was in Hospice at his parents house. He took a total of 36 chemo treatments but they only seemed to slightly prolong his life. This guy loved life and loved people, he wanted to live and had so much to live for. While he never married he had the privilage of traveling out of the country many times. He was financially set for life and would have been 58 in October. He had owned a midsize bike a number of years back but his current bike was actually a scooter. When we were kids we would pack sack lunches and head out on the country blacktop roads on our bicycle's.It's really hard for me to believe he is gone but I know it's best because he was suffering towards the end. I was with him about 8 hours before he passed and for the first time he failed to respond to me. Sorry if this post is a downer but I just needed to vent.

While he may not have responded, you can be sure he was comforted by having his best friend with him as he made the transition.  It's a brave and noble thing to be with someone at that time.  And, as long as you remember him, he's not really gone.

Sorry for your loss, it's sad that we only get a few really close friends in life, the one's who we know and they know us like no one else. When they're gone it's like part of us go with them.
