I got these pictures from Glenn at Woody's Fairings and I'd like to talk to the owners to see how they mounted their gauges directly in the fairing. Anybody recognize them?

BF

I don't know who they belong to, but the owner of the first bike has posted here before.  The second (black) bike I dunno.

you will have to cut the correct diameter hole( smaller that the outside of the gauge) unscrew the chrome back cover slip the gauge in place (a little silicone sealant would be good) and reinstall the rear cover.  you'll find that you will need an extension for the speedo cable. they are available on ebay.

I built the black one for a friend of mine over a period of almost a year.  Every time that I thought that we were about finished, he would come up with another thing or two that he wanted to add.  It is really an impressive ride, all black and chrome, including the wheels, forks, triple tree, rotors, truck stacks and numerous other parts.  It is an ultra low mileage '03. As for putting the instruments in the fairing, I really wouldn't recommend it. Installing the instruments in the fairing is fairly simple, but figuring out how to reset the mileage on the odometer was a real bitch.  Besides, they take up all the space where a radio and amp should go in my opinion.  He did, however, get a radio shop to install an amp run by an external MP3 player.  It is a very impressive bike overall, and it did win its division in a local car & bike show.  I will conclude by saying that I am really glad that he was paying for all those goodies instead of me...Jim :)
P.S.- We just ordered a longer speedometer cable.

The first bike is Wizards.
And that bike is a true "work of art"!

ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY!

First bike is not Wizards .... his fairing is not Woodys and, as you say, his bike is a work of art, not red.   I don't have a pic of his bike handy right now.

I agree with Lyn-Del, that 1st bike is not Wizards ride.

I have a picture somewhere on my computer of Wizard and Lyn-Del's rides here in Des Moines.     They stopped over and said howdy and if I remember correctly we had breakfast together.

1st give away on not Wizard's ride is that dinky front fender.

That fender is a stock fender.

Thanks Tank, sounds pretty straight forward. Glenn recommends relocating the headlight with a bracket from XF6. Any experience with this?

Thanks PharmBoy, why did you have to rest the odometer?

If you put a Woody's fairing on your Valk, you will need the headlight relo kit from Daryl.  It's a straight foward and easy install.

If you don't put your guages in the Woodys inner fairing, you'll need Daryl's speedo & tach relo kit. It comes with everything you'll need including a new/longer speedo cable.  Call Daryl at XF6 Customs tell him what you're doing.  He won't sell you anything you don't need.

I love my Woodys.

I used the guage and headlight relo kit from Daryl.

At first, and like most folks, I didn't think that I'd like the guages on the handlebars, but after I put them there, I really like it.  I can readily see them much easier now.

Etiwandablues, most standard & tourior riders reset their odometer at each gas full up so they will have some idea of when to start looking for another gas station.  That varies somewhat from bike to bike, but that distance is usually somewhere around 125 miles, depending on what region of the country one is riding in and the speed of the ride...Jim :)

Okay, I'll give ya one on the front fender.

1st glance I thought it was a VTX fender.

My error.

Brain cramp ... I didn't think about the trip odo, I was thinking about the main odo and couldn't think why it would need to be reset. I can see where the trip odo reset knob would pose a problem.

Thanks for all the replies and info . I'm starting to rethink the gauges in the fairing idea, maybe a stereo would be nice ...

After you order you Woodys from Glenn, call Daryl at XF6 and tell him that you're going to be putting a Woodys on your Valk and he'll tell you what you'll need and you can place your order with him then.  :cooldude:
