Sometimes I wish I had a harley.

So, on my way to work tonight, I merge onto the highway and settle into the right lane, set the cruise at 73, and listen to some music with my feet up on the foot pegs.  While cruising I notice a black pick up slowly creeping up in the left lane (or course they'd been in the left lane for the last 5 miles or so).  The lady in the passenger seat is gawking at me, as if she's never seen a fat, gray haired balding guy riding a cycle before, then it dawns on me that she was checking out the cycle, and not me (darn it....)  as she's doing this I notice they're slowly merging into MY lane!!  I look over, and the driver's looking over his wife, looking at the cycle (or maybe HE'S checking me out?)!!  Of course I either slow down, or speed up to avoid an accident, so I do the obvious, I speed up!!  No sense in not using the throttle, had I slowed down that would mean having to reset the cruise......

Had I been on a harley, it'd be just another cycle on the road, nothing special......  sometimes, that's probably safer.  None the less, it was a beautiful day for a relaxing ride to work.

When I have that 'gawking' thing happen to me, the guy is usually sitting at my
5 o'clock or 7 o'clock, tailgating about 1 or 2 car lengths away.

Haven't been crowded off the road like that yet.
A guy called me a Ba$tard, I said in my case it's an accident
of birth, in your case you're a self made man.

I like it on group rides when Harley owners are explaining to their significant others about my 97 Valk and they all stare in aw. All my Harley buddies can't stop talking about my ride? Was at a bar on a poker run no too long ago. Our group was leaving for the next stop when this chick started conversation with one of the other riders. " nice bike ", she says " is it a Harley? " . He replied " yes, wanna go for a ride? " she said " I like to go fast? " He pointed down to me sitting on my Valk and said " you'll have to ride with him".  :cooldude: that's right 8)
What ever it is, it's better in the wind.

It is my long experience that when gawkers look left (or right) to watch you/your bike, they subtlety steer left (or right) into you.  More target fixation going on.  I allow gawkers to look for a short time, but won't put up with someone pacing me in an adjacent lane for very long.  I am generally moving thru traffic anyway.

I had a gawker on a fatboy pull up alongside  in the right lane to check out the Valk and  then did the obligatory throttle burst past me so for sure i would see how fast his bike was. Downside was he was the lead bike in with two triked wings behind him who ran a red light to keep up with the gawker. I dont mean sorta red kinda yellow, i mean flat out Red. I guess it was more important to keep up  then to stop for a light  :uglystupid2:

For the record  i wish i had a harley so i could sell it and buy another couple valks.
Seriuosly, sometimes i do wish i had a  Honda Big Ruckus. They look like fun

How about a dresser Total Ruckus bumblebee.  It does look like fun!

A blone in a truck passed me outside of Sturgis. I looked at her and she leaned way over the passenger seat to look at my bike. I think she was a bartender at the dungeon and recognized my vest so she wanted a good look at the bike.

That is exactly why I put a Wolo BadBoy Air Horn on my bike. At 128db it wakes up the gawkers, even at highway speeds.

I'll get  gawkers speeding to get a look and when they're satisfied they fall back. :coolsmiley:

I have wolo horns also. When I'm approaching an intersection and the guys looking the other way, I hit the horn!!  Probably saved my life more then once.
