Fork leak question

I noticed that there is a very small leak on my right front fork. I've already ordered the necessary parts required to rebuild the fork seals from HDL and I should be getting them sometime next week. In the meantime is it safe for me to ride the bike or should I wait (really don't want to) till the time I get the forks resealed.

TIA.

BTW...I already tried the 35mm film trick and that did slightly improve the situation, but did not completely stop the fork oil from leaking.

I would try again. I had to do mine 3 times but its been good for 15,000 miles so far. Make sure you take off the fender and pull down the dust seal first.

There's close to a quart of oil in that fork. Definitely try the film trick again, but it's safe to ride until you have oil all over the entire bike and running across the garage floor...

Just be aware that the fork seal you can see is the dust seal.....the seal you want to clean is about 1/2 inch up inside the fork.........so you gotta get the cleaner up into that seal.....

Thanks All! I did read quite a few topics, so I am aware that I need to remove the dust seal before I insert the 35mm film and I did do that. I did the 35mm thingy a couple of more times, but there is still a very slight film of fork oil every time I press down on the forks. I guess I will just have to wait it out till the time I get my parts from HDL.

My local mechanic (not a stealership) said he will charge me 2 hours of labour @ $85/hr for redoing the forks. On the other hand I think I might just end up doing this myself.

I`d say that's a pretty good deal. I was quoted $600 plus to do mine.

Wow! Should be well under $350 including seals and bushings...
