or dang near.

Gave her a good look this spring and I figured I would make winter easy,,, nope. Put her up for a oil change and we are going to do a tire change. I ran 42psi front and back. It isnt cupped, and it isnt flat in just the center. Has a little center ridge going on and not a lot of tread anywhere.

It is a Metz 880 and I bet I dont have 9K on it.

Now I have read a lot of comments about others getting a lot of milage in different parts of the country, but I just don't see how. I am not a real aggressive rider, but I am not back with the blue hairs either. Most of the riding is on chip road, commuting. This year has been almost all commuting, just to busy.

Now, I don't want to go darkside, and the Metz stay where you put them in corners. However, if there is a better tire suggestion to get a bit more life out of a rear under these conditions, let me know please.

Good time to pull the rear again anyway.

Some don't like them, but, I have been getting 15-16k with the E3 Dunlop.

My next tire change (soon) will be a Metz front and Avon rear.

I loved Metz. When I had the 200mm rear I would get 12k out of it and 22k on the front. I'm a hi speed highway/interstate rider. It would get flat in the centers till I hit the hills and then it rounds out. Been happy with them.

as someone said on here recently , use 2 different tire gauges to check your pressure to be sure your gauge is right . Ive saw plenty of them that are not the same and read higher than they actually are . This would definitely give you premature wear .

I have a few gauges and they get compared so I know they are pretty close. I learned long ago to spend enough on a tire gauge.

I really think it is road make up and bike weight more than anything.

I have Metz on the Shadow and it seems to last longer. The wife doesnt ride as much though.

I was thinking about running a Avon on the rear. Not sure what if would gain though. Might give her a try.

If you are riding on Chip Coated roads, figure on 10K at the most.  Those chunks of rocks just eat up tires.  Not sure you are going to get more out of any tire.   Even C/T's will not get the mileage that they are suppose to.

I have tried several different tires that folks are saying that they are getting really good mileage out of.  They all wear out faster, because of the Chip Coated roads.

My rear Avon Cobra has 23 K on it and still riding. I'm not on chip sealed roads. It's kept at 46 PSI.

If da tire is bald, and the sun is shining pretty heavy, stop and get a do rag for that rear tire.      That should help from getting a top of the head sunburn.

God made me do it. ;D ;D :-X :-X   :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Maybe there is one made large enough for Steamer. Though not bald, looks like it might be hairy in the turns. Course on the end it would be used it would be a Don't rag, in fact a Please don't rag.

Are you running the 180 or 200 size in back? I always got more mileage out of the 200 Metz, also felt more stable to me.

180, but reading the posts, it might go to a 200.
I like the Metz, they hold the road nice and I have not had anything bad to say about them, run them on the Shadow for the wife to.

That the 200 you guys are running? Price diff is 11 bucks from the 180, that is worth a shot.

Also, does going from a 70 to a 60 make a differance? I could see you running the rpms up to maintain what you had with the 70, it is noticable?

The difference isn't a factor, raises by about 55 RPM....just a tad over 1%.

With the 200 you will have to do the nut cage mod. Well, you may have to. I ran 200 metz 2001-2007ish, 3-4 tires. Loved them.  :cooldude:

check the directline sale still going on

I run the battleaxe 200   on my 2nd one   at  42

From the wear I suspect I am running too much psi  and will lower it to 38 soon

Our roads are NOT chip seal but we have monster potholes from Dec to June

Expect 10k out of a 200 bridgestone  I think I paid 150 for this last one
