a white fish called SWAI (pronounced S-why) it's a product of vietnam and I don't want to spend  $10+ bucks on a huge bag to find out it tastes like a fetid dingo kidney.   

anyone here ever try it? looks like it could be very economical and we could get a bunch of meals out of it.

Same with cruise ships.   And I recall some dumping much more than just human waste over the side or thru the bilge pumps   Our own rivers/streams had a bunch of unappetizing stuff dumped in them as well over the years, some probably still do.

Unfortunately, I think most of our seafood comes from overseas countries that don't have the same quality/safety standards that we might, or that we might like.

I don't eat talapia for the reason they are poop eaters. I saw a dirty jobs they kept bass and talapia, the talapia cleaned up after the bass

We try not to eat stuff from overseas but its hard to do, or, hard not to do depending how you look at it.    We especially try not to eat farm raised stuff like oysters, shrimp or fish such as salmon,catfish or tilapia. That said, we are big seafood eaters. We just prefer locally caught stuff, especially stuff we catch.

its fish , its protein , if it tastes good and doesn't have a high mercury count , eat it . If all them curmudgeon survivalists lived 120 yrs ago , I bet they would eat it before turning on the AC ! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I think Swai {Basa} is the special of the day at the Curmudgeon Café ! But to the question at hand it is a mild fish and becoming very popular. As to what they eat you would be surprised at what some high dollar fish eat such as halibut,cod,etc. I am more concerned about where it`s raised and there water quality or lack of it. But you should try it you`ll probably like it.

halibut ends up a bottom feeder in it's life cycle, but it's pretty good

I  have a cat named Swai. Trout is the other cat. Burger is the dog, so is Bun.
en get kisses because Swai dosent have very nice habits.
I'd eat the fish, though.
