New life to old windscreen

Not really tech related but thought I'd share.  Just bought a '99 IS and the windscreen (W/S) was horrible and unsafe.  Previous owner must have repeatedly dried in with a hard dry abrasive cloth.
Thinking I can't make it any worse I experimented with the following with fantastic results.

Warm soap and water entire w/s  (I left mine on the bike) semi dry with damp cloth
Put a thick film of GooGone spray gel and let sit for 5 minutes  Tested small area first.

Cleaned off with warm soap and water

Applied thin film of GooGone sectionally then using a heldheld orbital buffer with terry cloth bonnet
I applied a small amount of NOVUS #2 fine scratch remover (The container store $6.00) to center of bonnet and got after it dividing the front of w/s in quarters.  After doing this twice, front and back ob
viously, it literally restored it to about 95+%.  I am very pleased with these results.

Cover the bike with old sheet or something to facilitate ease in cleaning up.

Blessings,

Woody

Why the googone? Did it take off the protective coating? My shield has some of the coating missing in small areas and it cannot be polished

what I found to best care for my WS (Memphis Fats)... is Lemon Pledge.  and for that matter the paint and chrome as well. It also fixes up hard water spots on my vehicles..

I've heard pepsodent or colgate toothpaste works also, but have not tried it personally.

Kind of like the fix for foggy headlight lens on cars. I wonder if some of those products will work on the w/s?

In case you didn't know, tooth paste (not the gell) is made from rock. So it is a very fine abrasive. Fine enough it will remove the UV damaged plastic on your lens (or windshield), with out scratching it.
