Three of those bikes are Valkyrie's and the owners are VRCC members... Whiskey Man's Interstate... Sam and Roger's Standard's  :( and the Triumph Bonneville that caused the first crash.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous.
It is however, extremely unforgiving of: inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

A lot of car tires on that truck.  Although, i'm sure none contributed in any to the accident(s).

This was truly one of the worst days in VRCC history.

Sad indeed, how did I not hear of this before? Who died??  Hoping all survivors are healing well.

Thanks, up to speed now, Tragic weekend, speechless at this point.

Willow

It's ugly indeed, both from knowing what brought them there and from the display of disrespect given the vehicles by the towing company.

I agree with Duffy.

A very sad day indeed. I've never met or ridden with anyone from this site, but still keep up with people from reading their posts. The "before" pictures are haunting. The "Parkway" and "the Dragaon" are both fairly close to where I live and it's been several years since I've ridden either one due to crotch rockets, etc. It may be several more years after reading this before I'm interested again. Condolences and best wishes to all involved. Be Safe. Blake

The last I have heard on conditions:

Sam home with separated shoulder and "every part hurt!" He was literally knocked out of his boots!
I had an email on Tues or Wed - had a rough couple days where everything hurt, but was feeling a little better.

Whiskey and Sugar are home resting. Sugar with 7 broken ribs and a big toe. Whiskey with stitches in both elbows and jammed toes. Probably sore all over too.

I hope they will post updates for us here.

Also, Yarold (on the Triumph) was healing after surgery in Knoxville.

Joe,
I don't think he really thought out his choice of words, or the "smiley" icon below it.

I've ridden those roads, and I don't really understand the cause of the accident, the outcome is still sad.  I hope all those involved recover quickly, and that if there's any way I can help please feel free to ask.

I think about Rogers now widowed wife Kitty, and her fight against cancer.  That situation just saddens the daylights out of me.  I've given money to strangers before, and although it doesn't "heal" anything, it does ease the financial pain a bit.

If you or duffy could please relay some information where a donation could be sent, please do so.

I know this might sound odd coming from "me", but, god bless you guys.  Take care and remember that you're all in my thoughts.

Sincerely, from the northern riders.

Interesting?

I too raised an eyebrow at this comment as insensitive but not necessarily as offensive or disrespectful.

I think a lot of us find this event "interesting":
Some of us because these are friends who befell tragedy. We want to know how they are doing and that they will be OK.
Some of us because this is such a bazaar and unbelievable event.
Some of us ( as a former safety officer) because we hope to learn from the event in hopes of preventing it from happening to us or our riding buddies.
Some of us for entirely different reasons which are not ghoulish at all..

I would also suggest that the whole story is so shocking that ones initial response might not be as carefully thought out as one might later hope when given time to actual process the whole event.

As to the smiley face, well, some of us feel so helpless when confronted by things like this all we have to offer is a smile in an attempt to be a source encouragement for those harder hit by the event... Others of us put on a smile as a mask to hide how upset the event is to us. I do not know any of these individuals involved but, I have shed more than a few tears over this.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the expectation of arriving in one pretty, well preserved piece but, to be skidded into broadside at full speed, battered, bruised, and thoroughly used up, having poked the grim reaper in the eye shouting "GERONIMO"

  The smile and the rolling eyes .... Gave me bad vibes .... The first crash " What could they do another rider crossed the road in a curve and hit them "  ?

Roger for lack of a better word just " lost it " in a curve in the second crash.

This news just saddens me so much I haven't been able to post about it. :(

I hope everyone heals well and quickly.

BIG--T

Even though I've never met any of these folks, this is so very, very sad that I'm at a loss for words. It's also sad to know that Roger's wife has cancer. :(  :'(

As I said on an earlier post, we had went to the Dragon twice in 6 weeks and surrounding area and seen crashes back to back. We actually seen and stopped to help one guy with a crotch rocket that lost it in a curve.

Wow, all I can say that it's got to get better!

Prayers for all.

Joe, yes, it turns out Yarold lives in the Atlanta suburb of Tucker, GA. My buddy Curt found his facebook and we read an update on his condition earlier this week. It turns out he is a bit of a photographer and has used his Triumph in some of his work:

I'm pretty sure this is the same bike, but that is NOT Yarold on it.  ;)

I agree with Duffy.

This is a bad deal no matter how it happened. As for your statement about how the bikes were "disrespected" I will say this. When I was in my accident it was on the xway. Guy hit me in the rear end and dragged my bike under his truck for nearly 100'. I never saw what the wrecker did, but my friend did. He said they dragged my bike out from under the truck instead of picking the truck off it. He said they then dragged it on the flat bed.
I don't care if the bike is crap, have some respect. Did they do more damage by how they handled it than the accident? Don't know but I didn't appreciate it. Sorry for the hi-jack.
You are never lost if you don't care where you are!
