Dang #@%&# lovebugs

Wife just got back from a road trip up to B'ham, AL visiting the grandson.  Car coated with Lovebugs (it's a black car). 

Don't have time to clean it up tonight....and it's too dark outside now anyway.  Sprayed the front end down with a dose of WD-40. Will try to clean the little buggers off first thing in the morning. 

What's the best way to get the little buggers off of the car?  I've heard that a dryer sheet works pretty good.  Any ideas?

I've heard Hydrogen Peroxide does good on bugs. Particularly on windshields.

I've got nothing to back that claim up though. But I've seen threads on it. So it must be true!

Soak a big towel in hot water, lay it over what it will cover.  In 15 minutes or so the bugs will wipe right off, just keep donig it over and over or get a few towels.  Smells like dead fish when you get warm water on them puppies

I always talked the laundry people at the Motel into giving me 4 or 5 large towels.    One that end up being rags......

A dose of WD-40 eh?  That alone probably done quite a bit of good actually.  A bucket of hot/warm water with some Dawn dish detergent and a towel..... and it would help remove the oily WD-40 film as well.

I use dryer sheets also.  During difficult months a chain saw gets the first layer.

Get a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide and put a sprayer on it.  Spray the front of your car/bike/truck until you see the white stuff start to run.  the damage to your paint is done from the protein in the eggs.  Continue squirting the peroxide until all the little buggers are soft and starting to run off.  Then after they are soft just use your water hose on super spray mode to rinse them off.  Most of them will come off, sometimes you need a rag to wipe the stubborn ones off.  You have to do it as soon as you get home each day or they will harden like glue.  We have been using this method for years and no damage to the paint or windshield on the bike.

they don't smell as bad as they used to down here, farther north they still have the distinctive "icky" smell. someone told me their body chemistry had changed and that's why they don't smell as bad (still do stink)

I was hoping if they didn't smell as bad more things would start eating them. we still have lots

Hydrogen Peroxide works wonderfully.  Use a spray to apply, they will start to foam up right away.  Leave a couple minutes and they will wipe right off.  Works on any bugs.

I tried the dryer sheets and they work surprisingly well. The WD-40 the night before should help by not allowing them to dry out overnight at least.

I do the wet towel thing and it works great on the windscreen. For the rest of the bike I just spray them with lemon Pledge, let it sit for a while, then they wipe right off. I've been told though, that the Peroxide neutralizes the acid to prevent paint damage.

I just paid a short visit to the lovebug board.  They're over there bitching like crazy about people who drive when they know it's mating season.   

H2O2.  Half strength mixed with water is usually strong enough.

Ive never done it, but I know people that spray the leading edges of their vehicles with PAM (or whatever cooking spray) and then the bugs simply dont stick, just hose them off when you stop

Got the little buggers off this morning.  Hosed down the front-end with some more WD-40 and went to work with a few dryer sheets. 

Worked pretty good.
