Colorado Flooding

Almost 12 inches of rain in 3 days, normal yearly rain fall is just over 15 inches, had this been snow it would have been 80 inches of the white stuff. Going to need a bigger snow blower 

Washed out part of a street about a mile from the house




Video from a park 1/2 mile away from the house,  park is designed as part of a flood control system for a hundred year flood, this storm exceeded that amount of water.

Warning sirens going off right now (3:40 pm MST 9/14/13) for possible flash floods


Boulder area and points north got it a lot worse than we did, hope everyone is okay.

it was last year that Duluth MN recieved 18" of rain in one day!!  that was pretty serious!!  the zoo was completely flooded, we visited about two months after wards, and the way the zoo was set up it wasn't a pretty sight.  actually really sad 'cause they had no where to put the animals that drowned.  they were in a gully that had a highway next to it where there was a large culvert for the creek to flow through.  well, a bunch of debris blocked the culvert acting as a dam and that's what really flooded out the whole zoo!

the most i've ever seen in one day was 8", that put some water in our basement. 

i thought i had some pictures downloaded, but i appearently don't....

Have some friends that live up in Fort Collins, and I haven't been able to contact them. Do you know if that area has been hit bad?

Boulder, Lyons, Estes Park, Longmont and Loveland got the brunt of the storm. Fort Collins mainly had the Cache La Poudre River over flow its banks in the north part of town.  Estes Park has no cell or land line phone service, only communication is HAM radios.

Sounds like a phone service is down all over the place.

Send me a PM where they live and I'll take a ride over to their house for you. We're getting more rain today but the only flooding I heard about on the news was up Poudre canyon (US 14). If they are in town they should be OK.

I left Loveland Tuesday the 10th...in the rain... headed for home via Hwy 34 to Estes Park -- Hwy 7 -- Hwy 72 -- through Black Hawk to I-70. Covered that distance doing about 35-40 mph due to the rain beading up on my windscreen faceshield and glasses. Was peering between water drops on my glasses to see where I was going. The further west we trekked conditions improved. I didn't realize a storm of biblical proportions was nipping at my heels. Had we left a day later we would have been stuck in the middle of the maelstrom. Got home late Saturday wrapping up a 3500 mile journey. Been watching the news and talking to my kid in Loveland about all the damage in the surrounding area. Wow! Hope you local area folks are not in jeopardy.

The best motorcycle road on the way to Rocky Mtn National Park.  In 1976 a flash flood killed 143 in this canyon.

I was through there three times; eastbound on the 2nd after passing over RMNP, westbound on the 6th en-route to another destination, and westbound again on Tuesday the 10th headed for home. I'm a retired highway guy. I've been in the thick of similar events a number of times. After the `76 flood event I wonder how many permits were issued to build at or below the high water mark. I can't imagine the conditions residents, merchants and restoration crews will have to endure as winter sets in. Not a pretty sight. Water always wins.
