NC Police Kill Accident Victim Looking for Help

This seems very tragic.  Guy has accident, seems he has to climb out back window (another article), goes to first house he finds and bangs on door for help.  Woman opens door, is frightened (not surprising at 2:30 am) and calls 911.

3 LEO arrive and he heads to them for assistance, presumably, and one of officers shoots him 10 times (out of 12).  Officer was animal control officer with the city in 2010, and was promoted to police recruit in 2011.

 Victim black, shooter white.

I know there will be racist accusations, but regardless of skin color, this LEO was out of control, and made huge mistake.  Neither of his 2 partners fired a shot. This needs thorough investigation and punishment and lawsuits if it is as appears.

many other cites to this event.  I am sure some will try to use it to political advantage, but my initial opinion is BIG error by LEO.

I understand the offending LEO has been charged with manslaughter.

No excuse for that kind of response.  Poor victem.   The guy was already traumatized, then when he turned to "the good guys" they shot him.....dead

Flame Suit ON!
There is a bunch going on here. NO ONE knew this guy had been in an accident. First I would guess the lady calling 9-11 had no idea what this guy wanted either? She herself was scared and who knows what that neighborhood brings in the way of crime?
Time: roughly 3:00 am, its dark,  and  a man (who care's what color) running at you from a home that "maybe" he just tried to break into is running from? What commands are officers giving that he may NOT be obeying? Can they see his hands and under these circumstances, Tazing , is a good option! Officer in fear of his life, dont' think so? Shooting, I think not. 10 out of 12 shots, what is that? IF there is the need to shoot, a double or triple tap will do. This cop obvioulsy was out of control to the enth degree and needs to be charged in light of the circumstances given. But, there has been and is going to be a bunch of investigation into this case. So far that is how the news article came to be by the conclusions and information listed or a news release given by LEO.  But  you can bet your sweet tuppy that the two racial pot stirrers will land with both feet right in the middle of this one!
As for the statement given by the NAACP, I think that is horse crap! Flame away....

I agree Hooter.

It's easy to sit here in a climate controlled room in front of your computer taking time to read this story and make calm judgments as to what happened, or should have happened.

I'm sure it was quite a different story at 3am in the morning hours as the excitement level is elevated.
It stated the victim came running at the officers and they attempted to taze him but were too far away and missed. How did this officer know why he was running towards him and what his intent was?

With all that's been going on lately:
Blacks shooting the student in the back in Oklahoma.
Blacks killing the 80 yr old Vet in Washington state?
The black, drug using/dealing, thug asking neighborhood watchman if he has a problem and then sucker punch him in the nose and go MMA on him like in the Florida incident?

Don't know about ya'll but I can see where this officers excitement was elevated.

In the article:
"Any day in this country, an African-American man can be killed for no reason by the people who are supposed to be protecting him," Kojo Nantambu, president of the Charlotte chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

If they can't figure this out I wonder what is the intelligence level here.

I'm not going to armchair QB this one, but it seems the police was way out of bounds. 12 shots?

I'm waiting to see how well the police narrative holds up.

Of course someone would say that, "the subject was running at them, leaving the cop no alternative but to shoot."

If true, the victim's actions possibly played a part in the shooting.

It just doesn't make sense, "why would he have run at them?"

I would assume a number of the hits were not very good.  2 misses.  If he keeps coming at you, you keep shooting.  I would.

Another officer fired a Tazer, but it missed.  So, he thought something wrong too.

I would assume that all three officers were hollering at him to stop, get down, etc, and it sounds like he ignored them.

I'm not gonna damn this specific cop, but to me this is another symptom of the militarization of the police in this country.

The more SWAT teams, armored combat "rescue" vehicles, and military-like the police become, the more "Us vs. Them" their attitude becomes.

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

I agree. This is an unecessary loss of life. There is just more to this than any of us know. And, we all know that the press or media won't embelish any of this.  Lets see what Sharpton and Jackson do in this case? Let the finger pointing and fist slamming begin.

Lots of good points here.

I think that most likely the cop was ill-trained (most are not as well trained as they could be, that's a fact) and panicked. But we'll see.  If he was he was charged it is not a good sign though. Cops protect their own and if they can find ANY justification to avoid charging they will.

They claim the shooting was justified just like I knew they would.  They said the guy kept comming at them after being tased, nevermind that the taser missed.   More and more deadly force is being used when it is not justified.  This is sort of like Benghazi, circle the wagons, and deny any wrongdoing.  This sort of thing is on the increase, and the public is becoming the enemy.

OR........ in an effort to circumvent the race baiters, the police do arrest one of their own...problem solved in the short term.....have your investigation w/o all the nay sayers saying " they are protecting their own ".  Come to a logical conclusion and if warranted, file charges and prosecute.   A lot less drama and the same end effect....just sayin

The Anvil

To be clear "they" (meaning the police) are not claiming it was justified. The officer was charged. With voluntary manslaughter and is out of 50k bail. The department clearly stated that he was NOT justified in discharging his weapon. Only the defense attorney has claimed that it was a righteous shoot.
