 and Admin, why is the OP blocked from deleting a post they may have second thoughts about and they want to delete or redo?  I would never know for sure but I suspect, like me, a couple of times poster may have had an "adult beverage".

 why make us jump through digital hoops by modifying post and deleting the whole thing and inserting a period?  seems silly.

No really the software we use to manage the board long ago decided the way to avoid "orphaned posts"  is to stop the original poster from deleting his entry after it's become the root of a thread.  Truth is there's simply no way to please everyone all the time.
