COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Officials with the South Carolina Education Lottery say a $400 million winning ticket in the latest Powerball drawing was sold in Lexington in central South Carolina.

Lottery officials said early Thursday that the ticket was sold at the Murphy USA station. The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 7-10-22-32-35, with the Powerball of 19.

The actual value is $399.4 million, with a direct cash option of $233 million.

It's the largest Powerball winning ticket sold in South Carolina and the fourth largest in the history of the game.

South Carolina also had a $1 million winning ticket sold at a gasoline station in Hampton. That ticket matched the first five numbers.

In May, a Florida widow won the biggest Powerball jackpot in history — a $590 million pot.

Hardly worth bothering with.

As an aside if one won this amount in the UK you get ALL of it. No taxes on the winning amount. NONE.

Pretty much my plan. Wasn't when I started working toward it 35 years ago...but my company took my pension (with the government's blessing) and the government is eating my savings...so that's pretty much all that's left...

When enron went down, the feds passed more laws that were supposed to prevent the kind of thing that happened there.

As usual, not well thought out and didn't do what they wanted.

Part of it was that a company couldn't fund their own pension with company stock. Part 2 was they had to be fully vested/covered for all liabilities by 2000 and something...(2005?)

Anyway, lots of companies said, "Can't happen, we'll go bankrupt."

The feds, ever being the advocate of the working man said, "We'll give you this one-time exemption from the pension trust laws and you can shut down your pension."

So...my pension...which I was fully vested in at the time (25 years), that was supposed to be 80% of the average of my top 5 year's pay for the life of me AND my spouse, as well as free medical insurance...was eliminated. I got $2500 lump pay out for the principle benefits.

Soooo...yanno...I got that going for me...

I dont  have a company pension plan

Of course the downside is I have NO pension plan

Or medical paid by my employer

But I get to take off all I want and ride, just dont make money while away

Who would fire me anyway?

Still 140 million would buy a lot of gas for my trips and I could finally buy the corvette I always wanted
