And just my observation.....not calling anyone racist or biggoted, I only have an issue with one coward on this board, not with anyone else.  I have attended INZANEs and other group VRCC events and rides, so you know I am an active member of this here club for 10 years now.

OK, here goes.......

Did anyone REALLY think that calling Obama Buckwheat wasn't gonna be flagged as racist?

G-Man you better be careful pointing that out, or you will be lumped in with Wayne and I.  I see your disclaimers, so wise.

I guess you think it takes a real coward to speak up on a forum, and to debate political ideology with a near united group in opposition right?  It takes even more of a coward to call someone out for making a racist post, instead of just saying "lol good one".

I didn't threaten anyone, I just informed him if he acted that way to someones face, that would be the likely result.  Internet tough guys forget that when they are in the confines of their basement.

Quote from: MAD6Gun on Fri 20, Sep 2013, 09:44:32So I think everyone should start work at 15 or 16.  I didn't see RJ say anything about sweat shops. How about McDonalds, walmart ECT.

But these are going to be the competitive career choices in the future.  Screw law or medicine, you'll be able to make a living, buy a home, raise a family, and go on vacations working at McDonalds.  Isn't that what they were picketing for?  McDonalds and Walmart workers still being on public assistance.  How Great will it be whe you can buy a house, yet have absolutely no skills?  Open a bag of fries, pour into basket, press #5 button, wait for beep.  You are now completely trained to work at McDonalds, when can you start?  Open a box, put the contents on a shelf, you are now trained to work in Walmart.  You can buy a home and raise a family.  Good job!   :uglystupid2:

A person working 40 hours a week at minimum wage earns $290 a week before taxes.  Does that seem acceptable to you?  Can a person pay rent, utilities, food, clothing, laundry, healthcare, and transportation to and from work on that?  So what should they do without?  Should they be homeless, or just not eat?  Should they just go naked, and never see a doctor?  Should they just learn how to teleport to work freely?  Or are you suggesting that no one should work at McDonalds period?

Those jobs aren't supposed to be for folks who pay rent, utilities, food, clothing, laundry, healthcare, and transportation.  There for college kids whose schedule change 3 times a year, for after school so a teenager can have spending moeny or save for a car.

Do you really think that completely unskilled work, not back breaking labor (which can often be unskilled), but jobs where you watch a video and you are completely trained, should pay enough to raise a family?

Do you know which sector of the population has the highest unemployment right now,....students.  Students who buy books, coffee, cars, go to shows, movies, clothing etc.  ...completely disposable income.  All that money is lost from the economy.  These are the folks who should hold those jobs.  Unfortunately, people make terrible choices (no, not all), but they should be rewarded with unskilled jobs that pay what folks who have college educations make?

I don't want to ride that socialist train where everyone deserves everything just for showing up.

Never gonna happen.  The disclaimer was for the newbies, not the tried and true bretheren.

And I frequently point out bigotry when I see it.  And it doesn't have to be about color you know.

G-Man.  How does a college student, that has tuition and books to pay as well afford to live on a minimum wage job?  Seriously?  You think everyone has parents that can support them?  I didn't say a single minimum wage job should be able to support a family, or enable a person to buy a home, or get rich.  It should be enough for themselves to survive.  Do you think a person at a minimum wage job gets paid "just for showing up"?  Most people work hard for their wages.  Even if it is "just" standing in front of a hot frier all day, and lugging bags of frozen french fries, I believe they should make enough to pay rent for a studio apartment, and to have food, clothes, laundry, and access to health care.  They should have sick days, and vacation days.  If they want to live in a larger or nicer place, if they want to buy higher end clothes, or be able to afford more than public transportation, if they want to be able to save up for a down payment on a home, or put money into a retirement fund, then of course they will have to strive to get a higher paying, more skilled job.

I happen to know one particular long time ago college student that had to pay tuition, books, expenses, dorm fees, and all the other related STUFF all by himself. Oh, he had to take out a student loan, and, even paid it back. This person also worked during this time period. I don't remember a minimum wage, but, remember making $1.25/hr. I made less working for our family.

Daddie O

That's the ideal Patrick?  To work full time and go to school full time, and have to borrow money and go into debt just to survive?  I hope for more opportunity than that for our citizens.

What, You expect others to pay for it??  I did it the same way Patrick did, only I was married at the time.  My oldest son was born during my jr. year of college.  They govt. did pick up that cost and for that I am grateful, but I have been paying taxes ever since, not making a career of sponging off the govt.

Well, it worked. It turned out OK. Thats just the way things were around here way back then. It didn't hurt anyone, it gave most a good work ethic. There was a time when people worked for what they wanted. I know very few, it any, people that have not gone into debt at some time in their life. Maybe I would have preferred not to, but, not at the expense of others. I'm content to have paid my own way and hope I can continue to do so.

During the '40's I worked 4 hours, 6 days/week in a defense plant while going full time in high school.
I helped support my family (dad was chronically sick). Mom didn't work. Seven of us.  No complaint and we didn't get support from the guv'ment.

In the 50's i did receive govt help in college tuition (GI bill) but had to decide to work full time to support MY family.  Still no complaints.  That's what we did.

I later paid 100 percent for additional training which landed me a professional job.  I retired from that, not rich, but satisfied that I contributed to the country GNP ,again with no help from the guv'ment.

The Pursuit of Happiness was guaranteed.  Reaching happiness was not within the realm of guv'ment to do for us.

Today, as Daddio keeps saying, somehow it's not fair.  At least that's my perception.

Yes, i misspelled government deliberately.  Reminds me of President Reagan.
...

I notice that the socalled racist thing keeps coming up here for you sensitive individuals.
A little story.

I was in the Army in Korea shortly after Truman integrated officially the Armed Forces.  I was getting ready to rotate home in January 1954. I was giving away some things that i didn't want to haul back to the states.  I asked my replacement if he could use some OLD SPICE talcum powder.  "Sure" he said.  the next morning I said goodby to all. My replacement had used the talc on his face after shaving. I suddenly realize that he was the BLACKEST black that i ever saw. I always felt that he used it so not to hurt my feelings.

Now that's how all Americans could and should act.  Constantly harping on race doesn't help.

Just my 2 cents after living in the good ole USA for 85 years.

I meant showing up.....for life.  Without putting in the hardwork and effort, before standing in front of the fryer and lifting those 3lb bags of potatos (I know, I worked in Burger King and bought my first car that way).  (And yes, I know SOME people fall on hard times)

You know what'll happen if it goes "your" way?  McD, BK, DnD, Popeyes,... all become the competitive jobs like I said before.  Hey, an apt., clothing, food, healthcare, and transportation are now attainable via 100% skill-less jobs, no experience needed, self-starters need not apply.

Every college grads dreams about a job with all of that right about now.  Who would you now hire?  The college grad or highschool dropout or GED.  Single folks coming out of military also will be going after those jobs.

I think it lowers ambition as well.

I fully know that words are used without such intention.  I'm Jewish, but I don't wear a sign telling everyone.  Less now, but when I was in school and in my 20's and 30's I'd hear anti-semtitic remarks, practicaly weekly.  "I jewed him down a few dollars" "Wow, so expensive, you must be a Jew", "Jew lawyer", Jew Doctor, Jew Dentist, etc.  I didn't labell all as anti-semites.  These people heard it from their parents or their aqcuantances and never thought twice.  I'm sure I've done the same in the past.  Maybe I'm more sensitive to it now considering my life's circumstances, but I can still differentiate.

more hyperbole, the president is the one not getting his way. how do you reconcile obama running on a fiscally sane platform then when he and the dems own DC they start running up debt like nobodies business. if you want I'll go find and post (yet again) obama on the campaign trail calling bush unamerican for running up some much debt

It is Congress that passes the budget.  ONLY the House can submit a money bill.  Republicans  are just as bad, if not worse, about pork barrel spending.  Republicans overwhelmingly voted for two wars while cutting taxes.  What do you suppose will happen when you cut taxes and increase expenditures?

wow you got us there. except you haven't! do you not remember for two years under a dem house there were NO budgets submitted? of course this is only required BY LAW!!!!
they operated the country by 'continueing resolutions"

the house has submitted several budgets, why isn't the senate debating them?

You know, I really do try to understand the liberal mind. I kinda sorta was one myself a long long time ago, maybe. I liked folk music and Bob Dylan, does that make me one. I pretty much live in the lands of the liberals and deal with them every day. Don't get me wrong, most are good people, just mis-guided[ :) ]. They just make my head hurt which gives me a reason to have another beer. I guess I'll never figure out what goes on inside those minds. I consider that just another one of life's little wonderments.

It is racist and just because your parents or friends talked that way doesn't make it all right. We are in the 21st century now, it's time for people to quit that crap.
