I went to Americade last June and camped at KOA near Lake George. The weather was a mixed bag of sun, freezing temps and rain. Still I enjoyed myself. There was guy there who rode and old GW with about with about 300,000 Km who went by the handle "Smiley". He was from Ontario Canada and being a fellow Canuck it wasn't long before the beer flowed.
The night went on by the camp fire just shooting the breeze. Well into the evening around 10pm an older guy rides in on Vstorm. Not an ideal time to set up camp so we offered to help. Turns out this guy (Don) from Pittsburgh is a Vietnam Vet who used evac casualties using a Huey. Don had some horrific stories and freely admitted he suffered from PTSD. He was also suffering from rare disease that would eventually take his life. He had to take large amounts of medications to deal with the disease. He often talked about his wife that night....finally he admitted that she left him. She couldn't deal with his PTSD and the side effects from the meds anymore. I think we sat there talked for hours around the camp fire until about 2am.

I don't think I'll ever for that night.  It brings new meaning to thanking those who served. They carry a heavy burden most of will never really know.

I'm looking forward to my next trip. I likely do the Cabot Trail when leaves turn colour. Next summer Sturgis here I come.
Camping is great way to meet all kinds of folks.

Oh I stumbled across this cool site about camping and motorcycles. It has plenty of good info and stories.

I like to camp also. When sitting up camp beside the big motor coach s get ask a lot of questions and people just stopping by to talk. I used to pull a aspen pop up camper, along with a kiwi kamp camper. They both set up real quick. Stayed in an around sturgis several different times . If you want entertainment in the evenings and close to the action I would recommend GlennCove camp ground. Right across the street from the full throttle saloon and up the road is the buffalo chip camp ground. If you want quiet get up the road toward spear fish...just my .02 cents. I'm sure some others will give their 02 cents.

More than one VAlk owner on that site too
I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6
