I had a high school class mate that joined the navy, he was a pilot, he had an "incident" while landing on an aircraft carrier at night, he never flew again.  I guess it scared the heck out of him so much he left the navy and became a preacher in Oregon!! 

I never found out what happened, his father just told me it was "pretty bad" what ever that means.

I used to love watching them take off at night from carriers at Coronado Island.

It may just be me, but, the video wouldn't open. I've never had the chance to make a real carrier landing. I have had [and do have] the opportunity to make them on the NAS simulator. They're enjoyable and can be set as easy or as difficult as you would want.

IF yer an adrenaline junky like I am-a catapult shot and an arrested landing on an aircraft carrier is WAY up there on the wow factor chart. Drag racing cars and boats motocross hell any racing with an engine involved while it is indeed and fact lotsa fun-aircraft-fixed wing-on and off an aircraft carrier-DAMN what a rush.  Now fer me anywho-wanna jack that fear factor almost off the charts-put me in a helicopter-DO NOT like them.  I will ride in a copter but I DO NOT like them.  Thanks Britman for posting that and for me anyway-a trip down memory lane.  RIDE SAFE.

A carrier takeoff would be OK (hands off the controls), but for a night carrier landing, I'd prefer to be unconscious. My F16B ride was exciting enough, just using the runway at Incerlik AB.

During my tour on a destroyer, we spent several nights picking up the remains of night carrier landings. We were most interested in finding nose cone sections as that's where the radar antennae were located and we did not want them in Soviet hands. Pilots were rescued by chopper and were already back aboard the carrier drinking coffee. Amazed at the fragility of what we recovered. Fiberglass ant titanium honeycomb. These were f-14's.

Qual in a Phantom. I was Photo and got to do one. U.S.S.Ranger.
Listen to the guy who says, "hold the camera low and tight".
It was high, so I could "get the shot". I got the shot,and a black eye, a bloody nose and a fat lip.
Then around San Diego and back to Miramar for the night.
I'd do it again in a second. Really, just about a second.
