The ONLY trucks that have to shut down to paralyze this country are the fuel trucks. Take the fuel out of the equation and EVERYTHING else grinds to a halt. Finito. RIDE SAFE.

my father was telling me of a time when the teamsters went on strike in Chicago, it did shut everyone down!!  not because everything was hauled around by trucks, but because the unions all kept together.  when the teamsters went on strike, so did the IBEW, and the Masons, the Plumbers, along with everyone else, all in support of the Teamsters.  you'll never see that again.

i'm not a member of any union.  but if I could, I sure as hell would.

As you already indicated, the unions are not that strong anymore.  If you have ever been a member of a union, or witnessed what a union would cost you and not really do for you, then you might reconsider you fancy to be in a union.  Then again.... maybe not....

"Pox" is an out-of-date word meaning a sexually transmitted disease. At the time it was used such diseases were all incurable and invariably meant a slow and painful death for the infected person. At one time "A pox on your house" was as offensive an expression as any being used today

agree with Alph, if the truckers shut down, there are independent operators who would gladly take their place although for sure would have an impact on everything since not enough independent truckers to take everyone's place.

I say let the govt. shut down and fire them all, do we really need all those cronies wasting our taxpayer money anyways?  Live and let live I say.

If they get re-troactive pay for missed time off work,  I say phooey on that as well.  If don't work, no pay, file unemployment with your state agency. 

Not related, but my wife works for a company who is mid-level pay just enough to fall into that higher end category and her employer demands everyone making so much money to take a week off work without pay during a certain timeframe.  She then, thru no fault of her own, filed unemployment for not working according to her companies rules for just that week.  Nothing wrong with that assistance when the company thinking it will save the company money enforces a week without pay off work.
