They were even trying to shut down places yesterday that weren't even government owned.
And look at the lengths taken yesterday to close and not allow the veterans into the memorial.

Many of the entities shut down are open air thingies that require no personel or money to run.  I'm, sure they can come up with a skeleton cleaning crew for the standoff, but to shut down things folks can just look at and take pictures of is,.... well we all know what it is.

Riding solo today exploring back roads/dirt and forest roads.

5 miles in on a pretty good forest road there are some wilderness camp sites alongside the dirt road.

Each one has a photocpied sheet of paper taped to a tree trunk saying the camp site is closed due to the shutdown. WTF?????
