the state of S.D. is paying $152,000 a day to keep open mt rushmore?
I've been there what is so damn expensive about a mountain you go look at?

unless they are grossly over paying for cleaning staff and those that work at the gift shop I don't see it.

they do have climbers that routinely patrol the cliff face and patch up the rocks as best they can. do you think that's where the expense lies?

That $$ number I heard to but after reading a artical in KOTA news it was $15,000 per day. I think they charge $7 to get in so they get some money back.

NY state has just re-opened the statue of liberty.

AZ is funding the G Canyon on our dime but the Feds get the income. Opening it supports all the businesses in the area.

I've got a wild idea, how about the ownership and maintaining (AND PROFITS!!!) from these places be permanently shifted to the states. The closer the government is to the people, the more responsive to the people it will be, so get the control away from Washington and move it back to where it should have been in the first place, states, or even closer, the counties and cities...
